Beara, Bellefonte Pa.. May 20, 1904. EE ————— Timber That is Valuable. Single Logs of Mahogany Often Bring as Much as $5,000. Sydney H. Shadbolt, of Washington, largely interested in a 130,000 acre $imber and plantation tract in the state of Vera Cruz on the Coatzacoaleos river, is familiar with all the phases of the timber trade, and for several years his attention has been giv- en largely to the purchase and marketing of mahogany. Speaking of mahogany gen- erally, he said: . “Mahogany has been esteemed a very valuable wood for more than 200 years, and during all that time the world has had substantially its whole supply from Mexico, Honduras, Cuba and Santo Domingo. Up to within about ten years the proportion seonred from these districts was about 60 per cent. from Mexico, 30 per cent. from Honduras and 10 per cent from Cuba and Santo Domingo combined. Now compara- tively little is obtained from Cuba and Santo Domingo. The product of all of the four distriots belong to the same species, but there are marked differences in the fibre of the wood from the West India is- lands and thas from the mainland. The Mexican and Honduras growth is of a bet- ter grade than any other. The mahogany of Mexico is worth in the United States and Europe from $80 to $100 per 1,000 feet on the average. The value of individual logs, however, is occasionally very high, single sticks bringing as much as $5,000. A STARTLING TEST.—To save a life, Dr. T, G. Merritt, of Mehoopany, Pa., made a startling test resulting in a wonderful cure. He writes, ‘‘a patient was attacked with violent hemorrhages, caused by ulceration of the stomach. I had often found Electric Bitters excellent for acute stomach and liv- er troubles so I prescribed them. The pa- tient gained from the fisrt and has not had an attack in 14 months.’’ Electric Bitters are positively guaranteed for Dyspepsia, Indigestion, Constipation and Kidney trou- bles. Try them.
