One hundred and fifty farmers, armed with guns, pistolsand axes, raided seven tollgates in Dearhorn county, Ind., recent- ly, cutting away the poles and nearly de- molishing three of the tollhouses. No re- sistance was offered by the keepers and all of them promised not to attempt to collect any more toll. The destraction of the tollgates is the result of a refusal hy country commission- ers to buy the roads at the expense of the county and throw them ‘open to the public as free roads. They now belong to private corporations, some of which bave refused to sell. No attempt at disguise was made by the raiders. ——To Mrs. C. B.
