Linden Hall.
P. C Bradford and family visited at Colyer
over Sunday.
Miss Katie Ziegler spent last Thursday
with her brother and family at Oak Hall.
Rev. J. F. Shultz, of Centre Hall, made a
few pastoral calls through here this week.
Harry Burns and family left, on Monday,
for Altoona, where they expect to make their
future home.
J. L. Tressler spent Sunday at Millheim
and Coburn, returning home on the 8:31
train Monday morning.
Mr. Sechrist and Miss Moyer, of Lebanon
Co,are spending a few weeks very pleasantly
with their unele, Jas. Ross Sr, and family of
this place.
Mr. Irvin Gettig and wife, of Pleasant Gap,
and Miss Sallie McClenathan,of Centre Hall,
visited at the home of Mrs. Elizabeth Gettig
and family on Sunday,
Among the sick of our community are Mr.
Henry Ziegler and Mr. Sellers, the latter
having had a paralytic stroke. Dr. Kidder
is in attendance at both places.
A crowd of about twenty young people
from Linden Hall, Boalsburg, Pleasant Gap
and surrounding country gathered at Penn’s
Cave last Saturday and picnicked together.
Mrs. J. H. Ross, wife of our foremost mer-
chant, left on Monday for the west, where
she will visit among friends and relatives in
Illinois and adjoining States for a few weeks.
Among Dr. Wolf's former students from
this place who will be likely to attend the
jubilee at Spring Mills this week are Miss
Gertrude Wieland and Messrs. Clyde Wie-
land, A. C. Ziegler, I. W. Ziegler and J. M.
Garbrick.
Mr. Gallagher, of Bellefonte, is taking out
lime stone on the Van Tries farm, prepara-
tory to burning lime. Mr. Van Tries is
thinking of going into the lime business ex-
tensively, and we wish him abundant success,
as this would add another industry to our al-
ready busy little village.
Thomas Coble left, last week, for Califor-
nia where he expects to secure work and re-
main for an indefinite length of time. This
is not Mr. Coble’s first trip to the far west
and we should fiot be surprised if we should
hear of his crossing the Pacific and taking
up his abode in Honolulu or Manila, U. 8. A.
The new grist mill at this place is doing
good work which is shown by the fact that
farmers from great distances come here to
have their work done and Mr. Ross also
ships large quantities of flour to distant cities
and towns. We congratulate Mr. Ross on his
success in the milling business and also on
his wise selection of Mr. Rishel as miller.
I am glad to correct an error which appeared
in these items last week, relative to the Lin-
den Hall Lumber Co. Mr. Crissman, the efli-
cient superintendent, says that the saw mill is
not likely to be moved for a number of years
and will continue its operation for years to
come. It seems that the rumor that the saw
mill was to be moved was originated by a few
people who do more talking than thinking.
Our citizens are to be congratulated that we
shall have this enterprising company remain
with us.

Nittany.
Perry McCaleb, of Cedar Springs, came to
visit his pareats last Sunday, his mother be-
ing afflicted with rheumatism.
James Nolan; of Walker, took a drive to
Bellefonte last Saturday, and having a splen-
did roadster made the trip very pleasantly.
Mrs. George Tolbert spent several weeks
at Winber with her daughter, Mrs F. Guiser,
also her son John, who is employed as a clerk
at the same town.
Mrs. Ollie Kerns, a trained nurse at Wash-
ington, D. C., and Miss Zura Gunsallus, of
Birmingham Seminary, visited their aunt,
Mrs. Lloyd Mowery, of Clintondale.
Joe Green, one of the millers of the Clinton-
dale mill, joined the huckleberry brigade
one day last week. His father drove the de-
livery wagon the same date, to favor the
regular driver, William Riggle.
The citizens of Clintondale are rapidly re-
building. The following buildings are under
roof: Evangelical church, Harry Snyder and
Mrs. Kling’s residences. Carpenters began
work this week on buildings for James Hays
and David Wolf.
Joe McKibben, of Salona, has a son located
in the Philippines from whom he had not
heard for seven months, Last week he re-
ceived a letter from him stating that through
the winter small-pox claimed him as a fit
subject. Following this disease, cholera
came next. He isanurse and was thrown
in contact with all contagious diseases,
The farmers of this vicinity are requesting
the service of a good blacksmith. One of
our esteemed citizens called at the several
stands last Monday and found them locked,
therefore the only way he had to get his
horse shod was to drive to Hublersburg, three
miles away. Should a first class mechanic
come along all should encourage him to oc-
cupy the old stand formerly occupied by J.
LL. Bogers, who is now too old to follow his
trade. §

phan’s court clerk, A. G. Archey, during

Ii is often that one finds a love-story which is
absolutely satisfactory, and a fine love-story end.
ing in renunciation isa still rarer thing. Such,
however, is “Broken Toys” with its Roman set-
ting and its atmosphere of noble love and tragic
renunciation. Another story which will interest
readers of the August Cosmopolitan is “The Soul
of Mozart” which centers in the time of transmi-
gration of souls,a problem fascinating even to the
ancients. Jt is a tradition that society stories are
written by those who have never moved in socie-
ty; but Mrs. Poultney Bigelow writes ‘The Story
of a Scented Note” from within the charmed
circle, The tale of Heine's passion for Mathilde
by Richard Le Gallienne, and a pretty little. Jap-
anese romance help to make the number an in-
taresting one for reading on cool verandas by
the sea or within the city’s walls.
