W. E. Meek has improved so steadily thn
he was able to be out Tuesday and show
his preference for the straight Democratic
ticket.
That jolly, whole-souled John Smith, who
always does what he can for the Democratic
party in Gregg township, was a guest of his
mother here on Sunday.
W. H. Roush and W. H. Hammer, of Al-
toona, G. W. Ward, of Pittsburg, and C. E.
Eckley and W. K. Goss, of Winber, were all
home to do their duty at the election.
The quiet people about Pennsylvania Fur-
nace were much alarmed last. Thursday
night when it was reported that a young
Lyon was roaring among the tall cedars at
that place.
W. C. Louck disposed of his personal ef-
fects at public sale last week and will move
to Grampton, Clearfield county, where he
will engage in a business, he expects to be,
more paying than farming. ‘
Farmer D. G. Meek is out a pair of ten
dollar nose glasses which dropped into a
steam thresher and were annihilated.’ It
don’t make much difference though this fall
for the election news 1s not worth reading
Election day was a beauty. Nearly every
vote was polled and with very little friction.
J. Will Kepler received every Democratic
vote, besides many complimentary ones and
consequently is gratified even though de-
feated.
J. F. McCormick; manager of the Commer-
cial Telephone exchange at Lock Haven,
came home to help swell Ferguson's Demo-
eratic majority. | Frank intends making
Lock Haven his home and will be an acqui-
sition to the Democratic ranks down there.
Mrs. Marie Goss is suffering with a sore
eye. One day recently while atttempting to
open the garden gate with a head of cabbage
in one hand and a knife in the other the
gate knocked the blade against her face and
caused quite a wound just below the eye-
ball,
John and Mary Glenn are mourning the
death of their little son Benjamin who died
on the 4th, of indigestion. He was four
months old and their only child. Interment
was made at the Branch graveyard Monday
afternoon at 2 o'clock with Rev. Hepler of-
ficiating.
The hunters got an early start Wednesday
morning for a two week’s hunt. The Mo-
does went into their old quarters at Ross’
on Stone Creek. The State College gang
will oecupy their old eamp in the Bear
Meadows, while the Homan party will hunt
around Slate Knob, their old stamping
ground.
It is now the Hon. Cyrus Woods, he hav-
ing been elected a member of the State Sen-
ate from the Westmoreland district by a good
majority. He is a brother of our fellow
townsman Dr. G. H. Woods and his father
Dr. Matthew Woods was one of the reputable
aud representative men of the county.
Senator-elect Cyrus Woods is a graduate of
Lafayette College and a lawyer of ability.
He is a member of the law firm of Guither
and Woods and his constituents will have no
reason to regret that they elected a Centre
countain. Dr. Thomas. another Centre conn-
ty doy and. formerly -of ‘this place, was
elected a- member of the Legislature from
the same county that day by a fusion of the
Republicans and Democrats.
