Last Friday as Katie Bowersox was tuck-
ing the robes in preparatory to starting home
from Krebs store her horse fell on the ice
and only by the help of some bystand-
ers was she saved from a serious runaway.
Mrs. G. W. MeWilliams was called to Al-
toona last week by the serious illness of her
daughter, Mrs. Olie Bowersox, who has not
been well for a year. For weeks she was in
a Philadelphia hospital and is now suffering
with the grip in addition to a complication of
diseases.
A. J. Tate’s family, who are quarantined
at the home of H. H. Goss. below town, with
scarlet rash, are having other tribulations
and trials. Mrs, Tate is confined to bed with
pleurisy and Fred, an active youngster of
five, fell from the cross loft of the barn and
badly fractured Lis jaw, but the docter thinks
they will be able to return to their Main
street home before long.
Last Thursday evening as James McCool
and his family were at supper some boys on
the street discovered the roof on fire and
quickly gave the alarm. The creek was near
and soon the bucket brigade had the fire un-
der control with little damage except soaked
carpets and furniture. This should be a
warning to property holders to examine their
flues and stove pipes for defects as a high
wind was blowing at the time and it is a won-
der the entire town did not suffer.
The annual feast of the Odd Fellows was
given last Friday evening at the home of A.
J. Tate, on Main street. In the absence of
the host and his family, ushers met the guests
at the door and made every one welcome.
Miss Annie Fortney presided at the organ
and Prof. G. W. Weaver, of Clearfield, was
chairman of the evening. The after dinner
speakers were Rev. Aikens, Prof. Weaver, J.
G. Heberling, Francis Speer, of Bellefonte,
W. H. Sausserman, of Altoona, and J. G.
Miller.
On Thursday the 22nd, Henry C. Goss, of
this place, and Ida Randolph were married
at the bride’s home in Houtzdale, by the
Rev. Hull. The bride is a niece of Wm.
Henry of our town and has visited here sev-
eral times. She is a practical, capable girl
well fitted for a companion and help mate.
Her husband is a son of the late Cyrus Goss,
and is now employed with the Johnstown
boiler works. The happy couple arrived
here Christmas eve to spend the honeymoon
with the groom’s mother on Water street. A
splendid wedding supper was prepared for
them ,and after April 1st, they will go to
housekeeping in Johnstown.
A FamIiLy REUNION.—On last Tuesday
the Smiths had a pleasant family reunion at
the home of their mother on Water street.
From Harrisburg, Clearfield, and Altoona,
they gathered under the family roof to
the number of 33. Dinner was served to
more than forty persons and after feasting
for several hours the day was finally conclud-
ed by photographer J. Herbert {Ward group-
ing 38 Smiths on the front porch and getting
them all on one plate, The picture was fine
and the reunion so pleasant that the partici-
pants resolved to repeat it next year.
TWENTY-FIFTH ANNIVERSARY.-On Thurs-
day the 29th, William C. Myers and his wife,
Jennie Kanode, celebrated the twenty-fifth
anniversary of their wedding at their home
in Alexandria with the assistance of more
than one hundred guests. The groom, a
(Centre countain born on the David Glenn
farm on the Branch, is 54 years old. He
farmed fora time and after serving his ap-
prenticeship went into the goach making
business which he carried on here for 14
years. A year agolast Spring he sold his
shops to H. M. Krebs and moved to Alexan-
dria where he is doing a large business. In
addition to repairing he has put out 50 new
buggies and a number of spring wagons and
carriages. Mrs Myers is a native of Alexan-
dria and time has treated her more kindly
than it has her husband, who is not in the
best of health. Their family consists of four
children, H. C., a medical student at the
University in Philalelphia, Edward, Harriet,
and Frank at home. A sumptuous dinner
was served and an afternoon and evening's
reception followed. Mrs. J. C. Neff the
brides’ maid of the original wedding was pre-
sent, and a fine array of handsome gifts were
presented.
FIFTEEN YEARS MARRIED.—On Tuesday,
the 3rd, Mr. and Mrs. Henry E. Iloman cele-
brated their crystal wedding at their comfort-
able home near Linden Hall with seventy
some guests participating. Fifteen years ago
they were united in marriege by the Rev.
Trosler, at the parsonage in Boalsburg, and
their wedded life has been prosperous and
happy. The host and groom of the occasion
is the youngest son of the late John Homan
and like his fatheris a most industrious and
successful farmer. He was born Oct. 16th,
1859, on the old Homan farm. His wife nee
Annie Royer, is the only daughter of Henry
Royer, who died in Virginia during the civil
war and their thrift and industry has made
their home one of the most pleasant and com-
fortable in the township.
At Twelve o'clock a dinner consisting of
every delicacy the market afforded was serv-
ed and at three o'clock Rev. G. W. Lescher
presented the guests to the bride and groom
who were assisted by their five children in
doing the honors of the house. After sing-
ing, ‘‘Blest be the Tie that Binds’ and ‘Home
Sweet Home’ congratulations were extend-
ed and Rev. Aikens felicitously greeted the
host and hostess. W. A. Murray reminiscent-
ly related the history of the home which be-
longed to the Murrays from the time of Wil-
liam Penn ’til Mr. Homan purchased it, fif-
teen years ago, at executor’s sale. He con-
gratulated the couple on their prosperity, for
at every turn comfort and thrift isin evi-
dence. The affair was most gratifying to
every one present and among the presents
was a handsome sideboard from Mr. Homan
for his wife.
