    Centre Hall.
Miss Roxana Brisbin, on Monday, returned
from Atlantic City and Philadelphia.
Mr. and Mrs. Ray L. Morgan, of State Col-
lege, spent Sunday with the latter’s sister,
Mrs. S. W. Smith, in this place.
A number of citizens, men, women and
children, went to Bellefonte on Wednesday
to see Company B depart for Mt. Gretna,
and declare that the privates looked brave
and true.
E. M. Hewett is gathering his material for
his saw mill, which will do business is the
Seven mountains. Mr. Hewett has purchas-
ed a number of large, fine tracts of timber in
the mountains mentioned and will operate
on a large scale. The mill will be in readi-
ness by the middle of May.
Druggist J. D. Murray removed the wood-
en awning in front of his popular drug store,
which gives his store rooms more light. Mr.
Murray will also remodel his dwelling house.
It will be unroofed, several gables added, and
the whole repainted, which will greatly im-
prove the appearance of the place.
The national colors are flying over the
diamond, and places of business are decorat-
ed with bunting. A handsome new flag will
float to the breeze in the near future, a sub-
scription having been taken for that purpose.
Young America makes its daily rounds with
drum and fife, and at night the cannon on
the picnic grounds tells the news that Uncle
Sam is taking prizes at Havana.
War news is bulletined in Centre Hall as
soon as it reaches other and larger towns.
Some of the dispatches reach here a short
time after their publication. The bulletin at |
Wolf and Crawford’s store, which bears the
head of the DEMOCRATIC WATCHMAN, a
compliment of that thorough Democratic pa- |
per, is more in detail and more frequent than
the bulletin at the post office, which is paid
for by the citizens and gets its news once a
day. The WATCHMAN bulletin is highly ap-
preciated and is much sought because the
dispatches first make their appearance on its
board. Score one for the WATCHMAN man- :
agement. The Sunday papers also reach here
shortly after noon on that day.
