Spring Mills. | From all that I can learn the hay crop in this valley will be almost a total failure. David Burrell, of Centre Hall, formerly a residenter of our village, made us a visit last week. Mr. B., has hosts of friends here who are always glad to see him. Last week the Millheim telephone com- pany placed ‘phones’ in several business houses of our village. The company is mov- ing along quite rapidly and working towards Bellefonte. The Spring Mills printing house, has re- “ceived anew press for printing musie. C. C. Bartges, the proprietor, informed me that he is now ready to execute all orders for en- graving and printing music. We had quite a lively baseball contest, on Saturday last, between the junior clubs of our village and Rebersburg. Both clubs did very well, but the juniors of Spring Mills were de- feated. The score stood 8 to 10in favor of Rebersburg. Very appropriate and able addresses were delivered here, and in our neighborhood, on Decoration day. Rev. Faus delivered the address in George's Valley, Rev. Rearick at the Union cemetery, (Farmers Mills) and Rev. Eisenberg, at Spring Mills. . Flowers were in great profusion. All the stores and many of the private residences in our village were handsomely and elaborately decorated with the national colors. I noticed Col. J. L. Spangler, Wm. Runkle, W. F. Smith (Prothonotary) and John Noll, Democratic candidate for the nomination for sheriff, on Saturday evening last. They had been to Millheim. Col. S., delivered an ad- dress at the cemetery. Of course down the valley they took a look at the political field Montgomery & Co. We buy only from first hand. We save the people money. We pay no tribute to middle men. We bring the cosumer in direct connection with the producer. Remember the money saving chan- ces we offer you are not limited to the items advertised. Every department in the store con- tributes record breaking values. We have just received 15 pieces also. It must have pleased them for when ‘here there were all in excellent spirits. Candidates were very lively last week, and all appear confident of success. Of course many of them will think differently after the 9th inst. All the candidates who visited us last week were Democrats. Among the number I noticed A. R. Alexander, of Penn township, candidate for the nomination for recorder ; Daniel Heckman, of Benner, can- didate for the commissionership ; A. C. Thomp- son, of Half Moon, for the nomination for assembly ; J. S. Carson, of Spring, and J. L. Runkle, of Bellefonte, both candidates for the nomination for sheriff, and P. H. Mey- ers, of Harris, an aspirant for commissioner. Republican candidates are evidently sailing very close to the shore. I presume they are awaiting the result of the Democratic conven- tion on the 9th inst., before venturing into very deep waters. After the convention, no doubt, they will endeaver to make the ‘‘fur fly.” State College and Vicinity. ; Jas. H. Potter was about town on Saturday. Miss Bell, of Bellefonte, is visiting Benj, H. Beaver, Postmaster Kennedy on Tuesday. B. F. Morgan and family spent Sunday in Philipsburg. : Lieut. Jos, W. Wolfe returned from Lewis- burg on Tuesday morning. We have met candidates within the past few days as follows, for sheriff, Cronister, Parker, and Noll, for treasurer, Kutz and Kimport, commissioner, Fry. The Huntingdon Presbytery in adjourned session on Tuesday evening installed Rev, Jas. O. Dennison as pastor of the State Col- lege Presbyterian church. was in Bellefonte, Card of Thanks.
