A MOORISH STUDY.
After dismissing Louis XV. Custo-
dian Delaney substitutes a Moorish
study in his list, and curtains galore, in
all the bursting importance of Morocco
and Singapore yellow, hang every where
—that is, they will hang after the con-
tractors get through. Here's a bay
window curtain at $385 with an over
drapery at $445, the drapery very rak-
ish as a study in things Moorish, the
curtains rather Louis Quinze in their
damask fringe. The farmers will be de-
lighted with Custodian Delaney’s sug-
gestions on curtaina/and draperies, just
as delighted as the Governor is with his

quins, Conla silk mohair rugs, Hydera-

some overworked country store.
The Wilton carpets come $2.25 and
emount to 695 yards. That show
what a nice big house the Governor's
mansion has grown to be since Pattison
left it, when 235 yards were enough,
and not Wilton, either. It requires
twelve Grand Rapids sweepers at $4.50
each to keep them cleanly looking, if
not clean, as the Governor's receptions
will grow larger in a Presidential year.
THE GOVERNOR'S LIBRARY.
What these deputations and conferen-
ces will arrive at by way of opinion on
the new library Custodian Delaney in-
tends to provide the Governor with is, £3
a matter of fact, unknown. The mem-
bers in the coming and anticipated dep-
utations may read or may not read.
They may have an interest in the $2C0
cabinet or they may not. All litera-
ture is not under key and Custodian
Delaney appreciates the matter so well
that for the first time in the history of
the State—a State that has had twenty-
one separate and distinct Governors—a
library is to be provided at an expense
of 3600, a sum modest enough in itself
when the character of the selections is
known.
These selections are subject to change,
but as the list stands at present with
Porter & Coates, which firm has the
contract to furnish this new State li-
brary, the Governor may enjoy what
Custodian Delaney puts on the shelves
for his pleasure and profit. For instance
Bulwer’s works in forty volumes, at $80
are about equal with Fennimore Coop-
er’s novels, thirty-two in number, at
$96, schedule rates. Then there are
Dickens’ complete works. thirty in num-
ber, at $90; Lowell complete, Oliver
‘Wendell Holmes, Whittier, Ralph Wal-
do Emerson, Hawthorne and Don Quiz-
ote—the latter in a fairly rare edition
that costs $11. Washington Irving's
works, Buchanan Read’s poems, Ten-
nyson and Egle’s History of Pennsylva-
nia by counties, with illustrations for
campaign use, turnish an excellent va-
riety. :
For a change the Governor can take
down the British essayists, Bracken-
ridges History of the Western Insur-
rection—that is, the whiskey rebellion
in 1790; Bryce’s American Common-
wealth, the American Statesmen’s series
McMaster’s History of the People of
the United States and Green’s History
of the English People. Having been in
Oklahoma, naturally enough Custodian
Delaney appreciates Guizot’s France, so
he includes that, and along with Bea-
conlights of History and Freeman’s
Great Britain and Greater Greece they
take up an attractive nook on the Moor-
ish book shelves. There are other vol-
umes—Nicolay’s Lincoln, the Memoir
of ‘Grant, Sherman and Sheridan ;
Shakespeare, in undressed sheep, some-
thing quite new ; Bartlett’s Familiar
Quotations, Coates’ Encyclopedia, Ap.
pleton’s Encyclopwedia of American
Biography and Gopsill’s Philadelphia
Directory, marble edge. The library is
a venture, of course, and" while other
Governors were never so favored the
present Governor will doubtless be hap-
py over the acquirement,
THE SILVERWARE.
Where so many things figure, as they
uecessurily must in the proper furnish -
ing cf the Executive Mansion in Custo-
dian Delaney’s view, the item of silver

expenditure of $596.50 will be made,
and the articles are solid silver, rot
plated.
This silver will be used in a dining
room furnished in cherry, as that wood
is near epough to mahogany to pass
like it ay yet be bright and cheerful.
A cherry extension table at $150, anoth-
er at $100, a cherry china closet, 5 feet
} inches by 4 feet 11 inches, at $200 ;
cherry window, grilles, and cherry
arched grilles, make a perfect peach of
— a dining room, as‘all.future banqueters
will concede. Two magnificent chime
clocks, that play tunes, display dates,
and run chrcnometers, are among the
telling features of the mansion.
The new Governcr’s mansion prom-
ises a revelation in the beautiful before
Custodian Delaney gets through that
will surprise the State, and the Execu-
tive Building, on Capitol Hill, will in
like manner become luxurious and pro-
fuse in oriental grandeur. Mr. De-
laney’s contract system is yet to be told
about. This narrative 1s even more en-
tertaining than the bill of particulars on
the Governor’s residence, and the award
of contracts and successful bidders is for
