The family barely escaped burning. ——1It is said that it required nearly $200,000 to pay the 50 per cent. divi- dend to the creditors of the defunct Philipsburg banking company, on last Monday. ——The venerable Jacob W. Packer, of Curtin township, died on Monday morning. Deceased was 80 years of age and a consistent member of the Disci- ple church. ——Farmer’s Institutes will be held in this county as follows : At Rebers- burg on Wednesday and Thursday, Jan. 25th and 26th. At Centre Hall, Friday and Saturday, Jan. 27th and 28th. ——The next opera house attraction will be the minstrel entertainment given by the young men of our town.
