Republicanism Taught by Foreigners
That very excellent and faithful
newspaper, the Washington Patriot,
calls attention to the remarkable fact
that a distinguished foreigner, Settayor
CARL St lUnz, Phollid stand up to de
fend the American Constitution against
infraction from native Americans. The
Patriot very pithily says : •
"The spectacle of n fdreign born sub
ject, now it distinguished citizen of the
United States, addressing and appeal
ing, to an American Senate to defend
our Constitution against the usurpa
tions of a reckless thief Magistrate,
and invoking the aid of Lis political
associates to check the, ruinous policy
of this Administration, was impressive
and full of instruction; and it was ren
dered more imposing by the contrast
which the champions of these excessive
measurea,presented in their feeble at
tempts to justify.e‘ery act of the Exe
cutive, and to distort precedents as au
thority for crimes far grayer than those
which had consigned other tyrants to
ignominious death.

The Radical House has presented an

their heads in silence and shame. We
had intended to review the bill at
