The public schools adjourned last
Friday for one week's vacation, it be
lug the close of the third quarter. The
regular quarterly examination came off
dm ing the weekond the schools (dosed
with vocal end instrumental exercises,
in which all participated. Certificates

of the, afternoon was the presentation to
Miss Davis, whose servicA dyed with
the present quarter, of a beautiful little
bible, by some of her scholars, as a tes
timonial of their love and esteem. The

TERRIBLE TRAGEDY. Greensburg,
WesllDOrelltild county, Pa., was the
scene of a dreadful affair, on the 19th
instant. A man named Ray, attempt
ed to kill his wife, and then shot and
killed himself. The parties were mar
ried two years ago, and went to reside
in the 'tale of Indiana, hut after quar
reling N .% rid times, separafed—the
lady returning to live with her mother,
at Greeoshurg. Ray came to visit her,
and tried to persuade her, to go aml
live with him, which she refused to do.
