last Saturday, at which was present our
friend, the inevitable "McCracken,"
alias larainerd, alias "dander Legs "s‘

to content himself with pop and cold'

—Bellefonte showed her desire tog
tronize.home entertainments last Sa -
day night, when so many of her eat
zens turned out to Mrs. Dunham's con
cert. There must have been five hun
dred portions present, a fact BIM made
Mrs. Dunham's benefit of some conse
quence to her. The exercises wore well
conducted, and on the wholii gave gen
eral satisfaction, as showing the profi
ciency of the pupils and the skill.and
accomplishments of the teacher. There
was plenty of outside talent assisting,
among which' was that celebarted quar
tette, Messrs. Blanchard, Harris, Mont
gomery and Hibler. These gentlemen
added much to the pleasure of the occa
sion, and wlipa vociferously encored.
They sang several pieces, among which
was the' beautiful air of Nora O'Neil,
which they had to repeat. Messrs.
Fred. Smith and Frank Green " (lid "
the instrumental part on the big and lit
tle fiddle-, handsomely, and all went
merry as a marriage (not a Seward)
bell. Where all did as well as could be

mention any in particular, and yet we

get very red. The sclerotic coat loses
its clear whiteness, sad the iris and the
pupil are more or less affected.
This disease spread in the aforesaid
.choral until its number was reduced
nem ly one-half It attacked tho leacher
as vigorously as any of' the pupils. It
sr:cup., too, that this complaini is not
confined to this sehnol. Last evening I
was informed by the teacher of Murray's
school, in Gregg township, that quite a
number of his pupils were afflicted shni
lar/y. Arid there is reason to believe
that "sore oyes" are not confined to
thee. As to the cause or causes wo aro
left to speculate. Will some physician
please furnish us some light on the sub

occasion was that at the Presbyterian
Sabbath school room,, on Sunday Vie
noon last, the animus of which was t he
desire to boar testimony to the worth of
a deserving and selfsacrkflcing young
lady, Miss Nannie Ammerman, a
young woonaFt who has long boon con
nected with our public, schools hero in
the capacity of a teacher, and who is al
so a teacium e tw thb Sunday school above
mentioned, hiving made up her mind to
go South as an instructor of the freed
mon,,in accordance with the designs of
the Presbyterian church. a largo assem
binge, including a number of strangers,
met in the S tbbath school room to show
their appreciation of her unselfish and
christian conduct, and to present to her
some testimonial of their respect and
good will. The gifts of the occasion
consisted of a. handsome writing desk,
presented by the teachers of the Sabbnth
school, a volume of "Spurgeon's
Thoughts of the Morning,'' presented
by the ladies of the prayer-meeting to
which Miss Amingraan belonged, and
Poke's Commentaries on the Con -
Naion of Faith," presented by the Su
perintendent. Gen. Jileaver made the
presentation speechas i in behalf of the
presentors and Rev Mr. Wiley respond
ed on the part of Miss Ammernfitm The
occasion is described no n most interesting
one, in which much feeling wns mani
fested
