Shaving Paper
We can all recall our ohildish admira
tion for the fine ribbons that sprung from
a carpenter's plane se ho shoved it over
the sisooth surface of the board ;and the
idea of making- piper from wood ie an
if not a pdLolaible one. Bill a
Downieaster h is devised a plan °fearing
stripe from ornamental we'ods, such aa
maple, black walnut, Ato.k, and using them
in lieu of wall paper. A Boston paper
says:
very delioate,simple, and beautiful
inalkine has been . construotad, which
.•••• will take a pOrtion of a tree, after it has
been out the right ldngth and width, and
shave it up into thltcribbons as wifie as
a roll of house paper, making one hun
dred orone hundred and fifty to the inch.
These rolls of wood are placed on the
walls by paper hingers with paste .and
brush, preelsel • l in the same manner
as •with paper The wood is wet when
used, and really works easier than pa
per, becautie it is much more tough and
pliable.' In those days, when variety is
- sought-for, one can finish The-walla of
hie house in different woods, to suit his
taste One room can be finished in
bird's-eye maple, another in chestnut,
another-in white wood, and so on. Titus
he has no Imitatiou, but the real, genuine
article upon his walls. The eye tires of
set figures, such as we have in ordinary
paper-hangings, but never of nature Its•
all The longer the wood-hanging .41 : _
mains on the wall the more diltinot will
Ise the grain and color-of.the wood."
