Itsaysthat Halleck : remem- bered what were to him themorii- fying scenes atIuka, where Rose- crans’ impetuous valor saved our army from defeat and disgrace, and cast shame upon Halleck’s timid delays and puerile blunder- ings whereby Beauregard’s army escaped him at Corinth. «This,” the Journal continues, was what Halleck remembered, and the reverse at Chattanooga gave him the first opportunity that had occured in Rosecrans’s whole ca- reer to give operation to the fee ings of envy that jealousy had engendered in his narrow mind.” Norman, the Washington corres- pondent of the Journal is of the same opinion.
