7 Wo are sorry that out limited space
prohibits ns from publishing the proceed-
ings of the Democratic meetings held
throughout the county during the past
week. Our friends at Phillipsburg, Pine
@rove, Half-Moon, Port Matilda, Zion, Jack-
gonville, Howerd and Unionville, will please
exeuse us for not inserting their reports,
mtn () son
pa We have been requested by Mr.
Moore of Centre Hill, to state that the report
in circulation, to the effect that he intend ed
to vote the abolition ticket is false. He says,
that he never entertained an idea of this
kind for & moment, and that in saving the
“profound thinkers’’ head, that he only got
his eyes opened the more to the contempti-
Lie tricks and heresies of Abolitionism.
ee () em.
p@~ Let Democrats and others remem-
ber that wehave charged Forster and Haupt,
two renegades, who are asking their support,
with standing on the same platform with
Daniel Agnew, who voted in the Reform
Convention to give negroes the right to vote
and they or their friends dared not to deny it.
0
Abolition Outrages,
A number of outrages have been perpe-
trated in this county during the past week
by abelition devils wearing the human form,
On Saturday last, as some Democrats were
returning home fiom the mass mecting at
this place from ahove the Firm School they
were set upon by 8 pack of scoundrels
most of whom were students of that great
humbug, and severely maltreated. with
sticks, stones and pistols, one among them
pamed Gull, being so severely injured
‘tbat bis recovery is despaired of.
On Tuesday last as some abolitionists
were returning from their mass meeting
here, they attempted to take by force a
democratic banner from the hands of Mr,
Sweeney's daughters, at Pleasant Gap.—
They were only deterred by the presence of
Afr, Sweeny himself, who backed out the
whole pack of diunken cowards. Mr.
Joe, Comley, it seems was one of the chief
instigators of this contemptible action, but
was tco much of a coward to see the thing
through himself. ;
J NNN
. 7” The abolition mass meeting which
was held here on the 6th inst. was respec-
table in point of numbers, as there was a
large crowd in attendance. But when we
consider that half of them were raked and
scraped up from Bair and Huntingdon coun-
ties, they have but little to glory over. They
couldn't raise a meeting in Centre county and
were compelied to enlist the sympathies of
the abolitionists of Blair and Huntingdon.
“In their procession there were 124 vehicles
of all descriptions,a little over half the num-
‘ber in the Democratic procession of Satur-
day, which counted 226. This shows the
difference in the turn out in Centre county.
The big guns, Gov. Curtin and Beast Bat-
Jor didn’t come. This was a great disap-
pointment, especially to those enthusiastic
young ladies who turned out in night-caps.
and petticoats to meet the ‘soldiers friend.”
The Republican ladies had everything very
nice, and we felt a little sorry for them that
«Our Andy’” should have so little regard for
his word.
Altogether, the thing was a humbug, and
Republicans themselves were glad when it
‘Was over.

More Proscription.
We learn that on Saturday last Dr. John
H. B. McClellan Was removed from the po-
sition he held at the Chestnut Hill Hospital.
the duties of which he discharged for some
time past with great ability and entire sat-
isfaction. This act was the work of Curtin’s
friends in this city. THE CAUSE OF IT WAS
SIMPLY BRCAUSE HE 18 TH@ BROTHER of George
B. McClellan. On Thursday last they went
in gorpany to the hospital, and the sol-
_ fiers manifested the most intense enthusi-
‘asm aad deijght at once more seeing their
old and mueh [oved commander. No pub-
lic man hes ever meet with such vile perse-
ution as General McClellan has received
grom Uaréin sad his followers, and now they
have increased the measure of their infamy
by extending their persecution to his broth-
ar. Let the soldier who fought with Mec-
Clellan, and shared wath him the dangers
of the battle-field, remember Andrew G.
Latif when they reach the polls on elec-
ion dey fe Plilagelphia Age, Qt. 5.

STERNBERG HALL
BY PUMP SUNKINS, BSQ.
# Somo time ago, I told the folks,
About a man in town, sirs,
W ho kept a clothing store so grand,
And did the thing up brown, sirs.
Now, this same man has moved his store,
From Diamoud down the street girs *
And now, next door to ¢* Conrad House,
He's got things mighty neat sirs.
At Reynold’s Arcade, where all
The folks do congregate sirs.
You'l find our Sternberg’s Clothing Hall,
With every thing first-rate sits.
There, coats and pants, and hats and cape,
And shirts and s and shoes, sire,
Are piled up 80 ** splendiferously,
You scarce know what to choose, sirs
1 tell you now its mighty grand,
To go into his shop, sirs,
And see, piled up on every hand,
Goods, nice as any top, Sirs.
And then Sternberg, he scrapes around,
And bows and acts polite, sirs,
And asks you if you ever fourd
Goods half so strong and bright, sirs
And then you're bound to praise his goods,
Because, to tell the truth, sirs,
There's never goods like them to be seen
In towa, by age or youth, sirs.
Besides, they're all 80 mighty cheap,
And good, and clean and new, sirs :
For, should you turn and leave his store,
You certainly would rue, sirs,
That you did not a whole suit bu;
From this great clothing man, sirs,
Who'd sell you ¢lothing cheaper, far,
Than any one else can, sirs
So here’s to Sternberg—may he live
Forever and a day, sirs.
And when he dies. we hope he'll find
A soft place for to lay, girs.
And on hisgrave, mid flowers “bright,
Beneath which he shall sleep, sirs,
We'll p ace a stone, whereon we'll write,
«He sold goods mighty cheap,” sirs.
