we started simultaneously from our chair

To the Democracy of Centre County
The Convention of the 25th has met and
accomplished the objects fur whi lr it was
convened—and having been a carMidate be
fore that body, I cannot refrain from ex
pressing my.warm gratitude for the sup
port whioh I received from the Democracy
from various parts of the County. Although
not successful, I feel that I have cause for
pride—nor shall I forget those who sustain
ed me. Asa man and a Democrat, their fav
or will be reciprocated at the first opportu
nity, and I atoll endeavor to honor their
confidence by future devotion to Democracy,
as I can safely say I have done in the past.
The success of our principles is my„higbest
ambition, and I shall mace t„he contest with
that success always uppermost. My suc
cessful opponent, Mr. Test. I enteedi as an
honorable, iliigb-minded genii, man, believing
that, on his part, he obtained the notniolt

who may hare been sent to reivesent- their
constituents In convention in my , case, and
led astray through the influences of unkind
misrepresentations, will gradually learn
their mistake and profit by it hereafter.
must indeed feel grateful to my friends, who

to complain of, insomuch as Mr. Test was
my senior, and had been a candidate in con

at this time I bespeak for lima the hearty
and cordial support of every Democratic
