Xlongh-anrl-Tnmbl. Fight forth Ponei
lom .f . I.adjr Promenaderi
An Incident occurred at the music In the Presi
dent's Ground on Saturday erenlng which was
not in the programme.
A gentleman wat obserred in the grounds
walking with a ladr, when another gentleman
tepped up and spoke to the lady, notifying her
tha( she must not walk any more with the other
man, backing up his mandate with an assertion
of his marital relations. The iady refused to
comply, expressing a preference for the society
of the party to whom she was not married.
Whereupon the husband stepped np to the
other party and gare htm a tremeadous crack
on the head. A lively fight eusued, of a rough-and-tumble
character, the partisanship of the
lady being decidedly manifested In fav.r of the
man who did not claim to be her husband, cry
ing at frequent intervals dnrlng the engagement,
"Give it to him:" "Pitch into him: he's not rar
husband;' and other expressions of active inte
rest in the proceedings. The result can bu im
agined. The ladies are always on the winning
aide, and in a few moments the alleged husband
yielded to tne adverse circumstances of the
eituation and called for quarter. The victor then
tucked mo lady under his arm. and the twain
continued their promenade, amid the plaudits of
an admiring auditory that had gathered around
curing the lray. wash,, ralnot, yesterday.

TROPICAL FRUITS.
To correctly form an Idea of the Immense traffic
In tropical fruits, one need only take a stroll some
pleasant morning along Delaware avenue. There
can be seen hundreds of retailers purchasing from
the ample supplies of wholesale dealers the luscious
fruits. The Italian street-vender, with huge basket,
striking a close bargain, the proprietors of our ele
gant retail establishments making their selections,
and dealers from all parts of the State making pur
chases, which meet with ready sale on arrival at
their destination.
Bananas make their appearance in our market
about the 1st of March, and are abundant till the 1st
of August the demand being heaviest during the
months of April and May. Pineapples commence
to arrive early In May, and receipts continue very
heavy till the middle of July. From the enterpris
ing firm of Messrs. Davis, Warner & Co., No. S3
South Delaware avenue, we obtained much valua
ble Information concerning the fruit trade. Com
mencing less than three years ago to devote their
attention to fruit as a specialty during its season,
they have increased their business steadily,
and are now . undoubtedly the heaviest
dealers in West India fruit in Philadelphia,
From New Tork importers they have kept them
selves regularly supplied with a choice stock of
bananas, their trade In this article alone amounting
to upwards of forty thousand dollars the past
two months. Some ilea of the trade in cocoanuts can
be formed when we state that since the commence
ment of the present year this firm have disposed of
nearly three hundred thousand (300,000). At the pre
sent time they are discharging a cargo of pineapples
Imported direct from the Bahamas, and have other
vessels loading and en rou. with this now univer
sally favorite fruit. This spirit of enterprise is com
mendable, and we trust will meet with the success it
deserves.

HAS ACQUIRED A WORLD-WIDE
FAME.
All of my preparations are meritorious. A nerlod
of twenty years has PROVED THIS to be the case.
See remarks made by Benjamin Travers, F. R. C.
S. Speaking of those diseases, and diseases arising
from the excess of mercury, he states that no reme
dy is equal to the Extract of Saissparllla; Its power
Is extraordinary, more so than any other drug I am
acquainted with. It is, in the strictest sense, a
tonic, with this invaluable attribute, that it is ap
plicable to a state of the system so sunken and yet
so irritable as renders other substances of the tonlo
class unavailable or injurious.

H. T. HELMBOLD Esteemed Friend: We con
gratulate yon on having the handsomest, and, at
the same time, the MOST EFFECTIVE PILL that

WM. R. WARNER' CO.
LL T. HELMBOLD will remark, In conclusion,
that his remedies are the result of long and careful
study. The Fluid Extracts have been before the
public twenty years; the sale of them in that time
proves their value. All have been benefitted by
them who followed my Instructions, and to-day they
stand UNEQUALLED In the extent of their sale and
UNSURPASSED by any Medicament in the Dispen
satory of the United States, not excepting a single
HERB, ROOT, PLANT, or scientific preparation.
Pharmaceutical I claim all mine to be, and have
never patented a single one.
To dispel any impression or prejudice that might
exist in the minds of many against my Preparations
from the publicity given through advertising, and
that I am and have been a druggist for period of
twenty years, and more conclusively to prove this
see letter:

World.

I am acquainted with Mr. II. T. lielmbold; he
occupied the drug store opposite my residence, and
was successful In conducting the business where
others had not been equally so before him. I have
been favorably Impressed with his character and
enterprise.

ALL STAND ON THEIR MERITS.
The Pill I have thought of offering to the atnicted
for ten years.
They are now perfect, and I shall stake my time,
money, and fame on their effectiveness. The In
viting style in which the Pill Itself is made, the bot
tie, label, wrapper all show with what care they
have been prepared. After examination, no Eng
lish 01 French preparation will show greater care,
and I am really proud of them.
Instead of the nauseous-looking, carelessly-pre
pared Pills vended generally and put up in wooden
boxes, and made generally or offered by those
having no experience as physicians, druggists, or
manufacturers of medicines, test the medicine
offered by your obedient servant,
