Great Raid on New York Policy Gam
More than 400 Arrested.
, The New York Post of last evening says :
The police raid upon tbe policy shops this after
noon haa resulted in the arrest It Is reported, of
? T Te honored dealers. The raid wag mado at
18 o clock punctually, and the dealers were com

arrested seven men, visiting No. 8tf Dey, No. 4
Courtland, Nos. 188, 148. 166 Greenwich, and No. 83
Hector streets, and No. I Battery Place. The Second
precinct police made seventeen arrests, several of
which were effected In one of the principal head,

Overstocked The Messrs. A. & J. B. Bartholo
mew advertise In to-day's paper the late arrival of
several Invoices of Kid Gloves, some of them one
jmonth and some two months later than they should
shave arrived, on account of the French war; taere
Ifore, they find themselves overstocked at this season
of the year, and, In order to reduce their stock to
Inear Its mln'raum by July 1, they propose a thirty
(days' clearance sale. On the genuine "Jouvln" and
other line gloves they have made a heavy reduction
la prioe. Just think of it, the finest kid gloves lm-
! ported only one dollar and seventy cents ($170) a
pair! And another point to which we desire to call
lour readers' attention Is, that this ottering la not of
"old job lots, odd sizes, and colors." but new. fresh
f goods, just landed, and in all sizes, from 6 to 8 in
clusive. We predict an Immense sale of these very
popular "Jonvtn" gloves at this low price, as the
time Is short, and those that call first will have the
il largest assortment to select from. This firm Is re
llcognized as the leading house in Philadelphia In kid
,gloves of all grades, from one dollar a pair to the
llUnest goods. As stated in the advertisement, full
lines of these kid gloves may be found at both their
stores, No. 23 North Eighth street and No. 903
I Chesnut street, and at same prices.

of persons who have been restored from confirmed
consumption by the use of this original preparation,
and the grateful parties themselves, have, by recom
mending it and acknowledging its wonderful
efficacy, given the article a vast popularity in New
England. The Cod Liver Oil is in this combination
robbed of its unpleasant taste, and Is rendered doubly
effective In being coupled with the lime, which Is
Itself a restorative principle, supplying nature with

HAS ACQUIRED A WORLD-WIDE
FAME.
All of my preparations are meritorious. A period
of twenty years has PROVED THIS to be the case.
See remarks made by Benjamin Travers, F. R. C.
S. Speaking of those diseases, and diseases arising
from the excess of mercury, he states that no reme
dy is equal to the Extract of Sarsaparilla; its power
is extraordinary, more so than any other drug I am
acquainted with. It is, in the strictest sense, a
tonic, with this invaluable attribute, that it is ap
plicable to a state of the system bo sunken and yet
so Irritable as renders other substances of thetonlo
class unavailable or injurious.

H. T. H ELMBOLD Esteemed Friend: We con
gratulate you on having tbe handsomest, and, at
the same time, the MOST EFFECTIVE PILL that
we have ever known for tne purpose intended.
WM. R. WARNER; CO.
IL T. HELM BOLD will remark, in conclusion,
that his remedies are the result of long and careful
study. The Fluid Extracts have been before the
public twenty years ; the sale of them in that time
proves their value. All have been benefitted by
them who followed my instructions, and to-day they
stand UNEQUALLED in the extent of their sale and
UNSURPASSED by any Medicament in tlie Dispen
satory of the United States, not excepting a single
I1.L.KU, ituui, rii&ix r, or scientino preparation.
Pharmaceutical I claim all mine to be, and have
never patented a single one.
' To dispel any impression or prejudice that might
exist in the minds of many against my Preparations
from the publicity given through advertising, and
that I am and have been a druggist for a period of
twenty years, and more conclusively to prove this
see letter:
From the largest Manufacturing Chemists in the
World.

I am acquainted with Mr. IL T. Uelmbold; he
occupied the drug store opposite my residence, and
was successful in conducting the business where
others bad not been equally so before him. I have
been favorably impressed with his character and
enterprise.

ALL STAND ON THEIR MERITS.
The Pill I have thought of offering to the afflicted
for ten years.
They are now perfect, and I shall stake my time,
money, and fame on their effectiveness. The in
viting style in which the Pill itself is made, the bot
tie, label, wrapper all show with what care they
have been prepared. Alter examination, no Eng
lish or French preparation will show greater care,
and I am really proud of them.
Instead of the nauseous-looking, carelessly-prepared
Pills vended generally and put up in wooden
boxes, and made generally or offered by those
having no experience as physicians, druggists, or
manufacturers ot medicines, test the medicine
offered by your obedient servant,
