AN ORDINANCE
To Authorize the Erection of certala Market-bouses
on Glrard Avenue, between Otis and
Elm Streets, In the Eighteenth Ward.
8ection 1. The Pelect and Common Councils
of the city of Philadelphia do ordain. That the
Commissioner of Markets and City Property be
nd he Is hereby authorized and directed to
have built market-houses on Girard avenue,
between Elm and Otis streets ((our sections),
in the Eighteenth ward, similar to those already
built on the eald avenue, and that the sum
ot twenty thousand dollars (130,000) be and
the same Is hereby appropriated to the Depart
ment of Markets and City Property to defray
the expenses of the same: Provided, That
said markets shall be built upon the
plans and specifications to be furnished
by the Chief Euglneer and Surveyor of the
city.
Section 2. That warrants for the same shall
be drawn by the Commissioner of Markets and
City Property in accordance with existing ordi

ward," was returned by his Honor the Mayor to
the Common Council on the 18th day of May,
A. D. 1371, without his approval; and said ordi
nance having been reconsidered, was passed on
the 18th day of May, 1871, agreeably to the
seventh section of the act of Assembly, approved
February a, iaa, entitiea "A lurtner supple
ment to an act to incorporate the city ot Phila
delphia," by the following vote, to wit: yeas 31,
nays 12.
And the said ordinance, together with the
objections of his Honor the Mayor, having been
sent to Select Council for their consideration,
was passed by that body on said 18th day of
May, A. D. 1871, agreeably to the seventh sec
tion of the act of Assembly approved February
2, A. D. 1854. entitled "A further supplement
to an act to Incorporate the city of Phila
delphia," by the following vote, to wit: yeas 10,
nays 3.
Therefore, the said ordinance baring been
passed agreeably to the provisions of the act of
Assembly in such ca-es made and provided, is
now a law in fnll force and virtue.

t- V. To Fix a Wharf Line unon the Delnware
River in front of League Island.
Whereas. By act of Assembly, approved Feb
ruary 2, 1854, Section 23 (P. L. 37), entitled "A
further supplement to an act entitled 'An act to
incorporate the city of Philadelphia,' " it is made
the duty of the Councils of the city of
Philadelphia to fix lines beyond which no wharf
or pier shall be constructed, etc. etc.; now,
therefore.
Section 1. The Select and Common Coun
cils of the City of Philadelphia do ordain,
That the extreme line to which wharves may
be constructed in the river Delaware, between
the western lines of Eighth street and Eight
eenth street, extending southwardly, shall be
and the same is hereby fixed according to the
description hereinafter set forth, and as is
now of record upon plan No. 227, on file in
the Department of Surveys, which plan is here
by mude part of this ordinance. The said
wharf line shall conform to the figures on said
plan and to the following description, viz.:
Beginning at a point on the west side of Eighth
street; eight thousand three hundred and sixty
(.8300) feet south of the south side of Curtln
street, thence to a point on the west side of
Eighteenth street nine thousand tix hundred
ud ten (OOIO) ft south of the south side of
Curtin street, the same being along and in
front ot the United Slates Navy Yard at League
Ibland.
