On the latter point the book says: "And now, reader, it only remains for us to give the con tents of the mvsterous iar. and there is a pros- feet of securing its captors, as revealed to Miss clnra whlln la an entranced state with a view solely to that object. The Jar contained two thousand dollars in gold, one set of gold jewelry'. and diamond necklace. The paper envelope contained valuable papers, the contents of which we deem unimportant to publish at present. The portraits ot the four captors were portrayed to her mind with such vivid, life-like accuracy as to enable her at a glance to recognize one ot tbem, and write his name with unmistakable certainty. Longing tor Home Attempt mt Starva tion Insane Through Homesickness. From tht ntuturg Uantu. One of the most singular case of monomania of which we have ever heard was developed in Allegheny a few days ago, attended with cir cumstances which render the case even more peculiar. The victim was an Irishwoman, on married, and on the sha It side ot thirty year. Bhe left her home on the ''gem of the sea" about a Tear ago and came to America, winding up In Allegheny, where teveral of her relations re sided, irom the Bret she expressed herself as dietatisfied with her new residence, and was continually expressing her laments that she had ever left Ireland. Ttiis gradually became the thought of her mind, and she became a mono maniac, or perhaps clearly Insane. She begged to be taken back, but her friends, thinking it was but a temporary delusion, gave no particu lar heed to her lamentations, and endeavored to make her fatislled with the change. All their efforts failed, however, and her grief in tensified with her monomania until she really became ill. A physician was called in and pre scribed for her, but she refused to take the medicine and finally rejected all food. In this condition she remained for twenty-two days, to it Is averred by her friends, without taking a mouthful of food or a stimulant deliberately attempting to commit suicide by starvation. She never at least ate in the presence of any cne during that lime, and when she was left alone with the food lu her room, evidently never touched It, as the articles were not found dia nrbed nor the quantity of food diminished in the smallest perceptible degree. At the end of the twenty-two days Bbe was helpless, and waa thought to be in a dying con dition, but she still had the remembrance of her Irish home, and plead to be sent back. She teemed to understand fully her design and would often get violent so much so that at one time a straight-jacket had to be brought into requisi tion. Friday the physician, in order to try an experiment, promised to have her se nt back if she would take food and medicine, and try to recover. She made him set the time two weeks, and then immediately seemed to be Infused with new life. With care and attention she did recover her strength in a measure, and at the end of the two weeks was enabled to sit up and move about at times. She then demanned that the promise be fulfilled, and as it was not, on the very day assigned she again refused to take toed, and commenced her former course. 7 be friends by this time became convinced that nothing would save her life unless she was returned to Ireland, and accordingly they kept her busy preparing for a few days, until she had gained sufficient strength to travel, and one day last week she was accompanied to New Yom, from whence she shipped for her old home. She seemed to thoroughly understand what she wanted, and mapped out the journey herself as clearly as though in the most perfect mental vigor. The friend who accompanied her to New lork says sue raa recovered her reason en tirely, and was rapidly gaining in health when she left that port. By this time she is perhaps within sight ot tno land she seems to have loved so well. SPECIAL NOTICES. Qy- OFFICE PENNSYLVANIA RAILROAD COMPANY, Philadelphia, May 1, 1ST1. NOTICE TO STOCKHOLDERS.
