THE DAILY EVENING TELEGRAPH PHILADELPHIA, MONbAtf, MAY 8, 181.
MUSICAL AND DRAMATIC.
The City Amusements.
At thb Acadimt of Musio the spectacle of
The Black Crook will be performed but for
twelve nights longer, owing to the building
bavins; been engaged for otber purposes after
next week. The great success of this entertain
ment bas been due to tbe magnificent manner
In wbich It has been produced, and It is undo
pi ably the most brilliant spectacle ever seen in
this city. Independently of the beautiful
scenery, costumes, and accessories, a great
number of vastly amusing features are intro
duced, and tbe interest of the audience is main
tained from first to last by a constant succession
of incidents.
AT thb Walhct Mrs. D. P. Bowers will
appear this evening in her fine role of "Donna
Diana" In the comedy of Love's Masquerade.
This play is a successful adaptation of one of
the most brilliant comedies of the Spanish
theatre, and there are few pieces that are better
worth feeing.
At tmh Ohbsnct the comedr of Saratoga,
which achieved a great success last week, will
be performed this evening and until further
notice. As a work of art this comedy is far re
moved from perfection, but it has the great
merit of being arousing, and the clever actors
who personate the leading characters at the
Chesnut. contrive to make it eminently agree
able to tbe public. Crowded houses were at
tracted laBt week, and as the interest in the
piece isundlminlshed,large audiences will doubt
less be in attendance this evening and at future
performances.
At the Arch Mr. John Brougham will ap
pear this evening and to-morrow as "Ned Mc
Dermott," In his own drama of The Red Light.
At tub Museum, Ninth and Arch streets,
Mr. Robert McWade will this evening personate
"Rip Van Winkle." in an adaptation of Irving's
Etory arranged by himself.
At tiie American, in addition to other
attractions, tbe original Japanese troupe of
acrobats and jugglers, with little "'All Right,"
will appear this evening.
A grand floral military and citizen's dress
ball will be given this evening at National
Guards Hall, on Race street, below Sixth, by
the 2d Infantry N. G , Pa., (National Guards).
Extensive preparations have been made, and
this will doubtless be one of the most elegant
balls of the season.
CITY ITEMS.
Those who Desire a Urilmancy of Complex
ion should beware of cheap patent piils, or other
cathartics containing calomel and mercury. Use
nature's remedy, Uelmbold's Fluid Extract Sar-
8AFARILLA and llBLMBOLD'S CATAWBA GRAPH PILL8.
Component parts Fluid Extract Rhubarb and Fluid
Extract Grape Juice. For Liver Complaints, Jaun
dice, Bilious Affections, Dyspepsia, Sick or Nervous
Headache, Costlveness, etc., the rills are une
qualled. Veoetine Scrofulous Humors The Vegetlne
has cured many cases of Scrofula of five, ten, and
twenty years' standing, where the patient has had
many physicians, tried many of the known remedies,
and, after trying the Vegetlne, the common remarE
is, "It acta differently, works differently, from any
medicine I have ever taken." Vegetlne will cleanse
Scrofula from the system. Try it.
Young Ladies, Beware I of the injurious effects
of Cathartics and Purgatives, containing mercury,
calomel, and other deleterious drugs. In a short
time they enervate and destroy the system as well
as the complexion, If you would have a fresh,
healthy, and youthful appearance, use Helmbold's
Fluid Extract Sarsaparilla and Uelmbold's Ca
tawba Grape Pills. They are purely vegetable ;
a pleasant purgative, and cause neither nausea or
griping pains. :
St. James Hotel, Boston. If our friends will
kindly Inform us, either by telegram or by letter, of
their Intended arrival, we Bhall be better prepared
for their comfort. The reputation of this new ana
elegant establishment Is such as to require no com
ment. Transient board Four Dollars per day.
Proprietor St. James Hotel, Boston.
To Insure Health and Proper Digestion yon
should use Helmbold's Catawba Grape Pills1
They are composed of Fluid Extract Rhubarb and
Fluid Extract Catawba Grape Juice. They excite
digestion, nourish and invigorate the system, and
purge out all the humors that grow and rankle in
the blood. Helmbold's Sarsaparilla makes New,
Freeh, and Healthy Blood, and Beautifies the Com
plexion. Mb. William W. casbidy, tbe jeweller at No. 8
South Second street, has one of the largest and most
attractive stocks of all kinds of Jewelry and Silver
ware In the city. He has also on hand a flae assort
ment of fine American Western Watches. Those
Who purchase at this store at the present time are
certain to get the werth of their money.
There la no Article in Materia-Medica which
supersedes Castor Oil, Magnesia, or Salts equal to
Helmbold's Catawba Okapb Pills for purging
from the system all superfluous and worn-out mat
ter. For Biliousness, Uostiveness, Sick or Nervous
Headache, etc., they are unequalled, as they cause
neither nausea or griping pains; after which purify
and make New Blood by using Helmbold's Sabsa-
FARILLA.
A. S. Hamilton's
Standard Sbwinq Machine Office,
No. 700 Chesnut Street.
Howe's, Grover & Baker's, Folsom's, and other
first-class machines sold t io per month and te rent
In the Spbino and Summer Months the system
should be thoroughly purged, and nothing Is so ac
ceptable to the Stomach as Helmbold's Catawba
Gkapb Pills, after which use Helmbold's Extract
Sarsaparilla. They invigorate the system, and
can be taken by Children with perfect safety.
Burnett's Cocoainb a perfect hair-dressing.
If Life and Health can be estimated by dollars
and cents, Mrs. Winslow's Soothing Syrup, for all
diseases with which children are ailllcted, Is worth
Its weight In gold.
Vxgetini Is the great spring medicine.
There is not such a reliable purgative known as
Helmbold's Catawba Grape Pills. They are safe,
pleasant, and efficacious, and cause neither nausea
or griping pains. Helmbold's Sarsaparilla, the
great Blood Pnrlfler.
Bubnett's KallistQN The best cosmetic.
