THE DAILY gEVENING TELEGRAPH PHILADELPHIA, TUESDAY, JANUARY 31, 1S71. MUSICAL. AHI DRAMATIC. The Krllacc Concert. The audience which assembled at the Aca demy of Music last evening made xxp In enthu siasm what It lacked In numbers. Miss Kellogg Was In excellent Tolce, 'and sang with her accus tomed sweetness and ease. She was especially effective in the ballads which were introduced In the programme, and given In response to the hearty encores which she received each time that she appeared alone. A polonaise from Thomas' opera of Mignon was likewise finely executed by her. The vocal support tvhlch Miss Kellogg received was far from being what it should have been. Eignor Randolfl has a fine baritone voice whose good qualities are familiar to opera-goers, and he sang last evening better than on the occasion of his previous appearance here. Bat the least said about Signor Veronl, the tenor, the better. The only other member of Miss Kellogg's concert troupe is Mr. Wehll, a pianist who has appeared In this city before, and been received with deserved favor. While he does not rank among the highest in his profession, his style is admirable and effective, not the least interesting of his performances being his left-hand playing, which is as artistic as it is nnlque. The grand piano used at these concerts is of the Weber make, and has been kindly furnished by Mr. J. A. Getae from his piano rooms, No. 1102 Chesnut street. Th Cltv An,ueineiii. At tub Chesnut the beautiful play of love's Sacrifice will be represented this evening, with Mr. Davenport as "Matthew Elmore." On Friday next Mr. Davenport will have a complimentary benefit, when the comedy of The Jealous Wife and the nautical drama of Jilack-Eyed Susan will be presented. Mr. Davenport is such an admirable artist, and since be has been manager of the Chesnut he has done so much to gratify the lovers of the best forms of dramatic art, that bis friends and ad mirers should crowd the house to its utmost capacity on this occasion. AT thr Walnut Miss Leona Cavender will appear this evening in the drama of Minnie's Luck. On Saturday evening Mr. J. S. Clarke will commence a farewell engagement of seven nights previous to his departure for London, whore he Is about to fulfil an engagement. Since Mr. Clarke's return from Europe ho has played a lengthy engagement at Booth's Theatre, Now York, and has appeared In nearly every impor tant city of the United States with the greatest success. His coming engagement at the Wal nut will afford his admirers the last opportuni ties for seeing him for a long time, and he will accordingly represent a number of his best cha racters. Mr. Clarke on Saturday evening will personate "Bob Acres" in Sheridan's comedy of The Jiivals, for the first time in four years. The performance will conclude with Toodles. During next week he will appear In She Stoops to Conquer, The Ilelr-at-Law, A Widow Hunt, Babes in the Wood, Our American Cousin, Paul Pry, and My Neighbor's Wife. The bill will be changed every evening, and no piece will be repeated. t At thb Akch Paris; or, The Apple of Dis cord will be represented this evening. At tiie Assembly Building the double headed girl and other curioeities are now on ex hibition from a till 5 and from 7 till 10 P. M. At the American a variety performance will be given this evenincr- At thk Amehican Museum, Ninth and Arch streets, the drama of The Drunkard is announced for this evening. A matinee to-morrow. At Dupkez & Benedict's Oteh a House the plays of Ireland and America and Dodging for a Wife will be performed this evening. Miss Clara Louise Kelloqg, assisted by Mr. James M. Wehll, Signor Veroni, Signor Ran dom, and Mr. George W. Colby, will give a second grand concert at the Academy of Music this evening. Theoioue Thomas, with his grand orches tral combination, will give two grand concerts and a matinee at the Academy of Music on Friday and Saturday next. Miss Anna Mehlig, the celebrated pianist, will appear at these en tertainments. The reputation of Mr. Thomas' oVchestra is such that a series of unusually fine .performances may be expected.
