IIarrishvrg, Dec. 23 The jury in the
"Credit Mobilier" case have returned a verdict
for the Commonwealth that the "Credit v
lier" pay into the State Treasury for taxes six
hundred and thirty-six thousand elirb kundred
and sixty-eieht dollars. t- rtCt aw-iint
claimed. Five k uured thousand dol
lars add',,itil depended upon tho
actV- "i the jury in this case, aud it is
merelore anticipated thai the result of this
fial will ultimately be put int the
State Treasury, on account of the "Credit Mo
bilier," over one million dollars. Great satis
faction is expressed here at this verdict, as well
on account of tbe revenue it puts into the State
treasury as tor tbe vigor witb which the law
governing corporations has been enforced. It
is conceded bv all who heard the trial through
out that L. VV. Hall, Esq., aud Attorney Gene
ral Lrewster acquitted them elves with marked
ability, and that to their combined efforts tbe
State is indebted for securing this highly impor
tant result.
CABINET CHANGES.
The Washington liepublican of yesterday bas
tbe following, which Is about all that can be
said upon the subject:
"Rumors are again rife that Secretary Rout
well is so far complicated in the San Domingo
matter by his friendship for Mr. Sumner, that
he will be compelled to leave the Cabinet. It
is certain that Mr. Sumner was so anxious to
consult with bim, that he sou&ht his presence
jetterday morning before olliee hours, aud,
notwithstanding the fatigue which he must
bave lelt in consequence of the all night session,
remained closeted with him for more than au
hour. Subsequently, Mr. Sumner having left thn
Secretary, tbe latter addressed a note to the
President, the purport of which is not known,
but it was answered promptly, aud it was fol
lowed by others, and "finally by a visit by the
Secretary to the President In person."
These are all the facts yet made public, but
in the present excited condition of atl.iirs here
they are more than sullloicnt to; form the bals.
of a thousand rumors, some of which have been
exitcgeruted into positive assertions that Mr.
Routwell bas resigded, aud that the President
bas accepted bis resignation. However, the
wott reliable information to be obtained, up to
a late hour last night, indicates no change in
the Cabinet until after the holidays, and It U
not certain that any will be made them.
