London, Nov. 26. A telegram, varying lronx
all other authorities, has just been given to the
public here, announcing that Paris Is still confi
dent, and there is subsistence in the city for two
months and a half, bread for eight months, and
wine and brandy for a year. The telegram says
further that the French are erecting additional
defenses on all sides.

Fire la Chicago.
Chicago, Nov, 20. At aboit 11 o'clock last
night McClellan & Steams' planlng-mill, on
Quarry street, near Arch avenue, took fire, aud
was completely destroyed. It was the largest
planlng-mill in the city. Loss about $40,000,
with $11,000 insurance.
Shortly after the above fire was under way,
another broke out in the basement of a four
story brick building, No. 1" Clinton street,
owned by Stewart & Sea. The occupants were
Tobias & Burnell, dealers in cutlery, who lost
$8000, with no Insurance, and the Western Star
Metal Company who lose $0000, Insured, wllk
some other smaller losses.
The Humored Healanatlon of Senator Drake.
St. Louis, Nov. 20. The Republican has de
spatches from Jefferson City, which say nothing
is known there of the reported resignation of
Senator Drake, and that the rumors that Gov
ernor McClurg will call an extra session of the
Legislature are unfounded.

It is stated that a gentleman whose name was
withheld had thirty thousand dollars in green
backs and other papers in a safe In tho buildiDg
which was burned yesterday, aud as the safe
door was open during the fire it is believed all is
lost.

John Armstrong and Charles Jolly, the butch
ers of tho Laplne family, near Potsie, a few
days ago, were captured oa Wednesday, and
are now in jail at Potsie. ,
murderer Arrested.
B. F. Mackey, charged with having com
mitted a murder near Frankfort, Ky., last
March, was arrested hero yesterday, and will
be held until a requisition from Governor
Stevenson arrives.
