The furions rain-storm caused the flneat wrk

ing at the Academy of Mnato to be sunfr last
evening to the smallest audience of the season.
Those who aid attend, however, enjoyed a rare
treat, for the tnnsic of The Marriage of Figaro
is so purely delicious that it would be a plea
sure to hear it even if not rendered by the most
thoroughly competent artists. The performance
at the Academy last evening, however, was up
to a high rank of excellence, as was to be ex
pected, for the leading characters were sus
tained by tho same singers as last season, with
the exception that Mrs. ilernard personated "Su
sanna" Instead of M'me Hosa, and Mr. Bowler
"Don Baseilio" instead of Mr. Nordulom. Mrs.
Bernard made a very excellent representative of
"Susanna," and in the beautiful "Letter Duet"
especially she sang with much expression. Miss
Ilersee, as the "Countess," acted and sang
charmingly, and Mrs. Seguln, as the page
"Cherublno," filled the ideal of the character
completely. Mr. Lanrence as "Count Alma
Tlva," Mr. Campbell as "Figaro," and the other
performers acquitted themselves creditably, and
as the choruses were well suug and tho orches
tration unusually good the entertainment was
one worth braving the rain storm to v, ituess.
