The Republicans may expect t lose a Con

elected two years ao had a Republican majo
rity on joint ballot of OS, the Democrats ha vim;
but one member In each house. They can
scarcely liopo to be to successful this week, but
will probably secure a clear majority and elect
a Republican successor to Senator Alexander
McDonald, whose term expires March 4, 1ST1.

The colored vote of Delaware will reach
nearly ftiMJO, and there Is a reasonable hope of
the Republicans carrying the State. The last
Legislature was unanimously Democratic, how
ever, and, In consequence of the unequal re
presentation, the next will probably be con
trolled by the Democrats, and a Democrat
elected to succeed Senator V"illard SauUbury.
Mr. ISlirse, in accepting the Democratic nomi
nation for Congress, gave utterance to the fol

"In the presence of this people and Almighty God,
I declare the flfteeutli amendment a monstrous
fraud. Hear, () earth 1 and give ear, O Uoavens ! in

The Democratic candidate for Congress In
the first district has withdrawn, and it is un
derstood that Hon. John Wcutworth, Rep., will
receive the support of the opponents of Farwell,
the regular Republican candidate. In about
half of the districts there arc 'temperance can

The vote iu 18H8 was 250,200 for Grant and
lW, 143 for Seymour, a Republican majority of

majority on joint ballot of 42, and the new one
will be iargely Republican, Insuring a Republi

to 15,278. The vote for Governor in 1333 was

to the Democrats by the filling of the vacancies,
lthe last Legislature there was a Republican
