DR. 8CIIENCK
Bajs there nre only two things nocessarj to
be done to cure consumption.
The first is to prevent the pitient frjna
taking cold.
The second is to get np a proper tone for
the stomach.
His Falmotiio Sjrnp, Ssaweod Tonic, and
Mandrake Tills, when used in accordance with
directions, will bring aboat a healthy condi
tion of the luDgn and stomach, which ia the
first grand requisite. This done, the only
thing to be observed is the avoidance
of taking cold. But this, unfortu
nately, many persons will not do. They
expose themselves to the raw winds of our
Tariable climate, and thereby defeat all the
good accomplished by the medicines named
above. To prevent these bad results, Dr.
Bchenck advises his patients to go to Florida
in tie winter season, as the climate there is
jnore equable. "When this is impossible, the
next lest and only safe thing that the patient
Can do is to stay in the house all winter,
keeping the temperature of the apart
tnent at about 70 degrees Fahrenheit.
If patients will not follow this
Bimple advice, they cannot reasonably hope
for a cure. Exposing themselves to the rasp
. ing winds of the Middle States in the winter
Season, they take fresh colds, and these re
peated assaults upon an already debilitated
System at length reduce it so low as to place
it beyond the reach of any medicine.
Now Di. Schenck's medicines are a sure
1 cure if they are taken properly. They puri fy
and invigorate the system. They nourish,
' while they remove all deleterious nutter.
They restore lost appetite and create a desire
for that kind of food without which a patient
Cannot hope to be restored to health.
But of what avail are their restorative
effects if they are time and again neutral
ized by exposure ? aLet no consumptive
patient forget that it is the little colds in the
beginning that produce the great ones that
Ultimately destroy.
Hundreds of the very worst cases of con
sumption have been cured by the use of Dr.
Schenck's medicines, and the tens of thou
sands who are either in the incipient stages
of this terrible disease, or whose cases are
confirmed ones, may be benefitted in the
same manner if they could be prevailed upon
to use them as directed. v
Hundreds of consumptives who have been
cared by their use have had a return of the
disease simply because they forgot the in
junction a void taking cold. They think
they must have fresh air. Physicians recom
mend it, and they obey. The -result gene
rally is-death, or a terrible lingering more
to be dreaded than death itself.
Once cured, it is possible to stay cured, if
Dr. Schenck's directions are observed; but if
(hey are cot, the condition of the patients is
Worse than before. They must have exercise,
but let them have it in their apartments. Let
hem keep warm. Let them - exercise as
much as their strength will permit in their
own homes every day. Get the blood into
healthful circulation. Keep up the spirits.
Call in pleasant company such
M wear pleasant faoes. If
long-faced prophets of evil visit yon, don't
fcsk them to come again. Encourage cheer
ful visitors who bring cheerful news, and
who are cot messengers of bad tidings. This
done, the patient cannot fail to improve and
Ultimately be cured, unless his case has been
neglected so long that it is utterly hopeless.
The lungs will not heal as long as they are
expesed to violent extremes of temperature,
find if patients will only bear this fact in
mind and use Dr. Behenck's medicines pro
perly, M directed, they can soarcely fail to be

Fast Living ano Its Consequences. When
"fast lle" has undermined the strength, destroyed
the appetite, impaired the digestion, and stolen
the hue of health from the cheek when the hand
trembles, the spirits droop, and the whole physical
ana mental organization languishes, is It possible to
repair the evil and restore the dilapidated system
to full health and vigor? We answer that It Is.
Hundreds of cases have been cited, thousands might
be cited, In which this regeneration has been accom
plished by the regular and persistent use ol Plan
tation Bitters. Abstinence from the ladulgences
which have wrought the mischief is, or course, ne
of the means of restoration. But It Is not sufllolent
alone. The consequences remain after the cause
has been abandoned. A wholesome and genial
tonic is absolutely necessary to rouse the corporal
and mental energies from their state of collapse.
This good work It Is the mission of the Plantation
Bitters to perform. But no other stimulant must be
taken.
