Rodolphe Collot Henri committed suicide In Washington on Saturday by shooting him nelf in the breast with a pistol. He left two letters giving as & reason for the act duiestic difficulties, and expressing his heartfelt thanks to Secretary Cox, Judge Otis, and his dear friends the Marquis de Chauibray and Eustache Collot for their kindness aud friendship to him. In one of the letters he says: "lam not an ambassador of France, and therefore cannot expect to go to my own native country to lie among the rest of my family, but must be buried as I die, in a strange country, friendless and alone. The Prince ltoyal telegraphs the following bulletin from the field of battle: "A victorious battle has been fought near Worth. McMahon was totally beaten by the larger portion of my command. The French retired npon Bitscbe. Y 'Frederick William, Prince Royal." The field of battle was near Worth. Berlin, Aug. 7. The following official des patches have been received: Maience, Aug. 0 0-10 P. M. The French were turned back on their entire line, and commenced to retreat towards the interior of France. The French had commenced an ad vance from Saaibruck, which they had held since the famous battle of three divisions against three companies of Pruasians, but having to fall back they burned that rich and unprotected town, and in withdrawing they spread the conflagration by throwing hot shot into it. Saabeiiick, Aug. G 7 P. SI. The town of Saarbrack bis just been retaken by the 1st Prussian Corps, under the command of General Steinmetz. Mayence, Aug. G J P. II. The heads of the Prussian columns approached the Saar on the 5th. This morning General Kamess found the enemy west of Saarbruck, in a strong position in the mountains, near Spichren, and commenced immediately to attack them. Following the aound of the cannon, a portion of the divisions of Baina kow and Stupriegal came up. General Gooben took command, and after a very boy t a tight the position occupied by General Frossard was taken by assault. General Fracois and Colonel Kenter are among the wounded. Paris, Aug. 7. The Prenae of to-day says that at the Bourse yesterday several persons were arrested. At :i P. M. shouts of "a bas la Bourse" were uttered by parties exasperated it the dissemination of false tews, whereupon an order m fiven to close the Bourse. The crowd became furious, and tore up the rail ing of tb en-losure, and force was brought to Dear, and the building was evacuated amid applause fram the outride. "Tho corps of General Frossard h,id to fight yesterday from 2 P. M., with the entire anuy of the enemy, and having hold his position until P. M. he ordered a retreat, which w.i3 made in good order. Li.ii Eur." The details of our losses are wanting. Oar troops are fr.li of da. The situation is not compromised, but the enemy is on our ter ritory, and a serious effort is ne ;essary. A battle appears imminent. In the presence of this grave news our duty is plain. WTe appeal to the patriotism and energy of all. The Chambers have been couroked, and we are placing Paris with all possible haste in a state of defense. In order to facilitate the execution of military operations we declare the capital in a state of siege. There must be no faintheartedness and no divisions. Our resources are immense. M. on Sunday, says "communication with McMahon having been severed, nothing was received from him until last night. General L'Aigle then announced that Mc Mahon 'e loss was great in the battle, but that his retirement was effected in good order. On the left the action began about 1 A. M., but was not serious until several masses of the enemy had concentrated, before which the lid Corps momentarily held its ground. Between and 7 P. M. the masses of the enemy became more compact, and the 2d Corps retired on the heights. To-night all is quiet. I go to the centre of the position." Paris, Aug. 7. La Liberie has the follow ing from official sources: "General Frossard has only retreated a short distance. McMahou's fight was near Neiderbron. His headquarters were at Ha genau, and he has fallen back to Saverne, thus Reaving Strasbourg menaced by the Prussians." A private despatch is said to have been re ceived here announcing that a corps of Badon troops has crossed the Khine above Basle; Berlin, Aug. 7. A salvo of artillery has been fired in honor of the Prussian victory. Paris, Aug. 7. (Official.) The following has been received at the general headquar ters: "Mutz, Aug. 7 8-30 A. M. That we may bold our position here it is necessary that Paris and France should consent to great efforts of patriotism. Here we lose neither our coolness nor our confidence, but the trial is hard. McMahon, after the battle of Kirchhofen, retired, at the same time cover ing the road to Nancy. The corps of Gene ral Frossard, which suffered severely, is taking energetio measures for defense. Green Brier, White Sclphur Springs, W. Va., Aug. (J. Afeaiful accident occurred to-night, on the Chesapeake and Ohio Rail road, to the np-train, at Jerry's Bun. . The next car from the rear coach was thrown 100 feet down an embankment and mashed to pieces. Twelve persons were killed outright and twenty wounded.' There were about forty persons on the train. The accident was caused by the ;hind truck of the coach, next the last car, jumping the track, after passirg over the trtstle work and curve in the road at Terry's run, two miles from Allegheny and eight miles from the White Sulphur Springs. The train' was running only six miles an hour, and up a Very steep grade. The conductor discovered that the car was off the track, and pulled the alarm bell, and the train was stopped very quickly, but the car that was off the track had lost its equilibrium and went over the bank. It is supposed the accident was tho result of the sudden breaking of a wheel. The dead will be transported to Richmond in the morning, except Major Paiton and son, who will be sent to Lexington. A speoial train was despatched from here with surgeons a soon as the accident was known.
