TJ1B OCEAN YACIIT RACE.
THE CAMBRIA THE WINNER.
New York, July 27 4 P. M. Tho Cambria
Las just arrived at Sandy Hook.
The Dauntless is reported in sight off the
Highlands.
New York, July 27. The announcement
of the Cambria's arrival created great ex
citement in this city, the colors of the yacht
lx-ing promptly displayed from the City Hall,
p.nd her victory announced by the firing of
cannon in City Hall Park. The Cambria pro
ceeded up the bay, flying the stars and stripes
r.t ber fore, and attended by numerous tugs,
yachts, and craft of various descriptions, and
t ame to anchor oil' Stapleton, Staten Island,
tt half-past 4. Her progress up the harbor
was greeted with a demonstration of welcome
from all passing and accompanying vessels,
which the Cambria acknowledged by her
colors. The Cunarder Scotia and Cuba, of
the same line, just entering port, fired
salutes as they passed the Cambria. The
Long Branch steamer Plymouth Hock, how
ever, made no recognition of the winning
yacht. A number of tug and yachts, gaily
decorated, went down to the Cambria from
tbe city, and hearty and cordial congratula
tions were exchanged with the victors.
The Cambria passed Sandy Hook at34.
P. M., and the Dauntless at 453 P. M.
The Railing master of the Cambria says that
the yacht never sighted tho Dauntless after
the night of the start. She reached Cape Race
in igbteen days; had many fogs and saw
many icebergs. The greatest run any one
day was 20S miles. She passed Sandy Hook
light-ship one hour and thirty minutes ahead
of the Dauntless. The sailing master also
xays the Cambria passed a pilot boat last
night, and the Dauntless passed the same
vebstl, which remained about stationary
twelve hours afterwards. Lorillard, who was
a passenger on the Dauntless, reports that she
lost U-o men overboard, and spent two hours
r.nd a half in vain efforts to pick them up.
The Cambria proceeds to the Navy Yard to
morrow to be overhanlod. It is understood
F.he will go to the West Indies after the re
gatta in this harbor.
