At a meeting of the Seamen's, Firemen's,
Coal Passers', and Marines' Bounty Associa
tion, held last evening in Friendship Hall,
corner of Norris street and Frankford road,
the following resolution was unanimously
adopted:
liesolced, That we are of right entitled to a
like bounty with the soldiers, which Congress
has failed to give ns, and that whereas we
served in defense of the Union from 18G1 to
1804 as well as they, we think, therefore,
that equal justice has not been done. Further,
that we petition Congress for the passage of
an act granting us bounty, or its equivalent
in land; that we will not pledge ourselves to
any candidate who does not favor our cause.
The Committee of Councils on the House
of Correction met yesterday afternoon, the
object being to fix upon a site for the pro
posed building, from an inspection of a map
of the ground and its surroundings. By
accurate measurement, the land purchased
contains li.l acres and 113 perches, of which
78 acres and 113 perches are high ground.
The low land is represented to be in a condi
tion easily reclaimable, and the whole is of
ample size for a House of Correction, Prison,
and Almshouse. After considering the mat
ter very fully, the committee came to the
conclusion to visit the ground and select a
Bite from personal inspection. The house
will front the Delaware river, no matter in
what part of the land it may be placed.

friend that he did not desire Mr. Fish to

however, that Mr. Motley would be retained

It is reported from Washington that it is
believed the President will yet suoceed in
having the St. Domingo treaty confirmed, in
consequence of the Senators not being will

DANIEL (TCONNELL ON BENJAMIN
, ...... DISUAELI. ,
As the name of the distinguished author of
"Lothair" is now upon the lips of most every
person in England and America, it mav be
interesting to our readers to know what Dan
iel O Connell s opinion of him was.
The provocation for the following bitter ex
tract from a speech, delivered at Taunton
about thirty years ago, was furnished by some
leuiuu ui iuiiKu u m course oi wmon
be alluded to O'Connell as a "traitor" and an
'incendiary. " ;The great orator, rising in his
wrain to me iuii majesty oi inah invective,
thus replied:
"This miscreant bad the audacity to style
3; miri v r
me an lacenuiary. v uy, was a greater In
cendiary ia 1831 than I am at present, if ever
I were one and if I am, he is doubly so for
caving employed me. 1 hen he calls me a
traitor. My answer to that is, he is a liar.
He is a liar in actions and in words. His
life is a living lie. He is a disgrace to his
aperies. What state of society must that be
that can tolerate such a creature having the
audacity to come forward with one set of
principles at one time, and obtain political
assistance by reason of those principles, and
at anotner to profess diametrically the re
verse! His life, l Bay again, is a living lie.
He J the most degraded of
his species and kind; and England
ia degraded in tolerating, or having
upon the face of her society, a miscreant
of his abominable, ioui, and atrocious nature.
My language is harsh, and I owe an apology
for it, nnt 1 win tell you vnv 1 owe an ap-
loj. It ia for thia rtaon, that if there be
harsher words in the British language I
hliould use them, because it is the harshest of
all terms that would be descriptive of a
wretcMbf this species. He is just the fellow
for the Conservative Club. I suppose if
Sir Robert Peel had been out of the way
when he was called upon to take office, this
fellow would have undertaken to supply his
place. He has falsehood enough, depravity
and selfishness enough to become the fitting
leader of the Conservatives. He is conser
vatism personified. His name shows him by
descent a Jew. nis father became a con
vert. He is better for that in this world; I
hope, of course, he will be the
better for it in the next. There is a habit
of underrating that great and oppressed
nation the Jews. They are cruelly perse
cuted by persons calling themselves Chris
tians; but no person ever yet was a Christian
who persecuted. The cruellest persecution
they suffer is upon their character, by the
foul names which their calumniators bestowed
upon them before they carried their atroci
ties into effect. They feel the persecution
of calumny severer upon them than the per
secution of actual force and the tyranny of
actual torture. I have the happiness to be
acquainted with some Jewish families in Lon
don, and amongst them more accomplished
ladies, or more humane, cordial, high
minded, or better educated gentlemen,
I have never met. It will not be supposed,
therefore, when I speak of Disraeli as the de
scendant of a Jew, that I mean to tarnish
him en that account. They were once the
chosen people of God. There were miscreants
among them, also, and it must have certainly
been from one of those that Disraeli de
scended. He possesses just the qualities of
the impenitent thief who died upon the cross,
whose name, I verily believe, must have been
Disraeli. For aught I know, the present
Disraeli is descended from him; and with the
impression that he is, I now forgive the heir-
at-law of the blasphemous thief who died
upon tne cross.
