THE DAILY EVENING TELEGRAPH PHILADELPHIA, MONDAY, MAY 30, 1870.
til? Affairs,
The frame buildings attached to the West
Philadelphia Bkating Kink were destroyed by
fire about 1215 o'clock yesterday A. M.
Detective Levy yesterday returned from
New York, bringing with him Charley Brown,
alias Myers, charged with being conoerned
in the burglnry of Mr. Esau's house, German
town, committed some time ago.
Early on Sunday morning, a small safe
in the office of the Tiger lietel, on Vine
street, near Fourth, was carried into the yard
by thieves, probably with the intention of
taking it from the premises altogether. The
operators were, however, discovered when
they bad reached the yard, and made their
escape through the gate.
An attempt was made on Friday night to
break into the store of T&ornley & Chism, at
Eighth and Spring Garden streets, but the
operators were discovered and effected their
escape. Five large bags were left behind,
with which they intended to remove the
choicest of tho stock.
During an alarm of fire about 1 o'clock
yesterday morning, Mr. John F. Meoser,
boarding at the house of Mr. Joseph Moun
tain, northeast corner of Sartain and Poplar
streets, went up stairs to look out of a third
istory window for the fire. "While he was in
the act of opening the shutters he fell to the
pavement, striking his head against the curb
stone, killincr him instantly. The deceased
was thirty-nine . years of age, and was a
brother of William Mceser, proprietor of tho
Sunday Merturfr.
Yesterday afternoon a man named John
Wright, while in a lager-beer saloon on Apple
street, above Drown, became engaged in a
quarrel with a party of young men. They
finally knocked him down and kicked him
about the abdomen. He was taken to a
friend's house in the vicinity, and Dr. Piper
Iveing called in, he pronounced Mr. Wright's
injuries to be of a serious character. The
injured man was subsequently removed to
bis home, No. 120 Christian street. William
and Frank Coffin and Charles Snyder, alleged
to have been concerned in the affray, were
arrested and locked np in the Seventh Dis
trict Station-Honse to await a hearing. The
police are after others of the party.

(JOO.COO. The privilege of putting prisoners in the
cify prisons was, on Saturday, refused the
United States Marshal by the Salt Lake City

When Gen. Garfield's banking bill comes
up in the House, Gen. Schenck will move to

and it is thought the amendment will be
carried.
