A New Triumph of Practical Science Aliment
from the Hocks. All objections t the universal use of
ths alimentary Sea Mosses as a portion of the dietary of
the civilized world have, it seems, been happily removed
by the discovery of a new prooess of preparing them for
culinary purposes. There never was a tima when the
"Food Question" was a more vital quoxtion with the
masses than it is now, and we therofore regard this
discovery as particularly opportune, not to say Provi
dential. The Irish Moss or Carrageen, and the Ioeland and Nor
wegian Mosses, have Ions; been known to contain a larger
mount of nutritive gelatine, in proportion to their bulk
nd weight, than any other vegetable product of the sea
or land; but t ho seeming impossibility of entirely purify
ing them from all extraneous matter, and rendering
them agreeablo as an element of food, has hitherto ex
cluded them, in a great measure, from our bill of fare
Ibis apparent impossibility has been overcome ex
perimental science overcomes almost every obstacle now.
adays and Irian Moss, purified, concentrated, and ren
dered an absolute luxury, as Sha Moks Farink, will
hereafter be quoted as a food staple in the marke.s of the
world.
Au. Hail
On Sunday last, 'bout half pas, two.
The gathering olouds of sorabro hue
Were flying past with quickened pace,
As if contending in a raos.
Loud peals of thunder burst ; anon,
The lightning flashed: and then the storm
Burst in its fury o'er the land.
Bringing dest ruction, death, on every hand.
The frozen rain-drops, from the skies
Fell to earth, of prodigious sir.e,
And man and beast in terror Uod,
'While many in their fear fell dead.
The bravest of the brave aghast
Stood, while the storm went honrl'ng past.
And viewed the havoo far and wide

HOOFLAND'S
GERMAN BITTERS
Is entirely vegetable and contains no liquor. It is a
compound of Fluid Extract.. The Roots, Herbs, and
Barks from which these extracts are made, are gathered
in Uermany ; all the medicinal virtues are extraoted from
them by a scientifio chemist. These extracts are then
forwarded to this country to be used expressly for the
manufacture of this Bitters. There is no alooholio sub
stance of any kind nsed in compounding the Bitters ;henee
it is free from all the objections inoidentto the use of a
liquor preparation.
o
HOOFLAND'S
GERBIAN TONIO
Is a combination of all the ingredients of tbe Bitters with
the purest quality of Santa Oruz Bum, Orangos, etc It
is used for the same diseases as the Bitters, in cases where
some pure alooholio stimulus is required.
