held at their rooms last night to complete
arrangements for the mass meoting proposod
to be held with referenco to tho grievances
of the Irish people. -A committee was ap

A game of base ball was played yester
day afternoon at Seventeenth street and
Columbia avenue, between the Athletics of
this city and tho Maryland Club, of Balti
more. Tho Athletics wore victorious, the
Rcoro being .'i t for the Athletics and H5 for
the Maryland Club. Thero was a large
attendance.
A meeting of tho Finance Committee of
Councils was hold last night. The sureties
of John L. Hill, as Collector of Delinquent
Taxes, were approved. Tho contract for tho
erection of a Morgue, at a cost of s2."00, was
also approved, and tho ordinanca for the
erection of a bridge over the Heading Bail
road at Broad street was agreed to. The
ordinance creating a loan for the improve
ment of the l'ark and the paving of Broad
street was postponed for two weeks.
A meoting of citizens of the Fourteenth
ward was held last night in tho hall, at Thir
teenth and Spring Garden streets, James
Winters presiding. Addresses were made by
Isaiah C. Wears, Major A. 11. Calhoun, Captain
William Curry, and others. A banner was
presented by the white citizens to the colored
citizens of the ward. It was made of white
merino, bordered by gilt fringe, and bearing
n portrait of Hon. William 1). Kelley, with
the inscription "Friend of tho Colored Mini"
Burmonnting it.
The Fourth Annual Tournament of the
Pennsylvania Billiard Congress was held lust
evening at tho Assembly Building. Tho first
game was played between Messrs. Ilnnterand
McAleer; the former stood 100 and the latter
(!4. The second game was played between
Messrs. Nelms and Doyle; the former stood
100, and the latter J12. There will be four
pames played to day, participated in by
Messrs. Flunkett, Iiockhill, MeAleer, Doyle,
Hunter, Nelms, and rainier.
Domestic Affair.
Gold closed yesterday at 113.
Mr. Covode, it seems, was not absent
from the House on Friday night.
The Big Horn expedition is to consist of
a thousand men instead of five hundred, as
at first proposed.
Postmaster-General Creswell wants the
House Appropriation Committee to increase
the item for clerks' hire and letter-carriers'
salaries.
There is a strong probability of the pas
sage of the bill providing for a free-water'
channel between the Mississippi and Lake
Michigan.
Some important amendments in the
Funding bill have been agreed to in Com
mittee of Ways and Means, but their char
acter has not been allowed to transpire.
The Senate is making considerable pro
press with its calendar. After it is gone
through with, the franking abolition bill will
be taken up and amended. The House, it is
thought, will not agree to these amendments,
bo the bill will fail.
It is understood that the Somite Military
Committee have substantially agreed to all
the provisions of Mr. Wilson's bill, excepting
those relating to oilicers' pay, on which sub
ject a modiiication of the House bill schedule
wiil probably be recommended.
Several other members wore yesterday
excused by the House for absence on Friday.
On those not excused a line of ten dollars
each was imposed. General Sohenck gave
notico that in future he wonld movo for a call
at tho commencement of every session.

Tho Zollverein Parliament has completed
its organization.
Victor Emanuel has recovered from a
slight attack of scarlatina.
The constitution de fulc has been unani
mously adopted by tho (Ecumenical Council.
Cuptaiu Eyro is in London, seeking to
have his certificate restored, on the ground of
the inconclui)ivoncss of the evidence against
Liiu.
