Tbc talk about bnvlnir a museum la Central Park Is revived. Think not that It Is to be a Wood's Museum, or a iBliiontoloKlcil museum, or any of those other magazines la which HvIbi; wild animals (or dead ones cither) bear a con spicuous part. It Is to bo a museum of history, antiquity, and art. No Cardiff giant Is to dese crate it, no Fccjee mermaid, Woolly Horso, or other abomination of eccentric humbu? Is to come unlgh it. It Is to bo dedicated to the Good, the Beautiful, and tho True. Genuine art, eenu Ing history, and genuine antiquity, liko a new set of Graces, are to twine tholr arms around each other there, and to frown down anything that is Illegitimate. The proposition to estab lish one comes originally from the New York Historical Society, which at any rate has something to commence with. For a good many years it has been quietly accruing a quantity of chart, documents, manuscripts and books. It already possesses several hundred valuable pic tures, a collection of Egyptian curiosities that is scarcely rivalled by any in Europe, and suflielont coins and medals for an accomplished numls matlclan to go Into raptures ovor. As far back as 1803 tho State Leclslature was applied to by the society and the Tark Commissioners con jointly, and a site was assigned by enactment that year. Central Park, as every one knows, is already enriched with numberless works of beauty, but perhaps it needs something of this kind to give it majesty and dignity. If an enter prise of this kind is to be supported it must be through private wealth, and whether Fashion is willing to direct a portion of its wealth into euch a channel remains to be seen. Maternal Pitglll.ni. Mrs. Spoorry owns a llttlo girl of thrco years of age, who bears to her tho relationship of daughter. Some time ago, Mrs. Spoerry sepa rated from her husband on the ground of incom patibility of temper, and the husband agreed to pay her so much per month for her own support, and so much for the support of the child. After the lapse of a mouth or so the supplies were discontinued, and Mrs. Spoerry found herself penniless. In this condition her pride was humbled so much so that she repaired, in company with her little girl, to tho abode of Spoerry, demanded of him that he should take her back, and insisted upon being reinstated as mistress of the household. This Mr. Spoerry was unable to sa. He was able to soe, how ever, that the crisis gave him an opportunity of regaining possession of the child, whom accordingly he snatched up and in . the same breath ordered the mother to leave the house. The poor woman, whatever her fault may have been, was devotedly attached to her little daughter, and wept and prayed to be al lowed to take her away. The male Spoerry was inexorable, however. "He knew he was right," and Mrs. Spoerry was obliged to depart alone. With unsubdued spirit, however, she took unto herself tho company of a choice spirit named Smith (whose address may bo found in the di rectory), and proceeding again to her husband's house demanded the child; the housekeeper there answering by committing an assault upon Mrs. Spoerry, and behaving generally in a vio lent and aggressive manner. Mr. Spoerry also loaded a pistol, and threatened to shoot Mrs. Spoerry and her companion, should they persist in their endeavors. They did persist, and finally succeeded in carrying the infant away. Mr. Spoerry has unsuccessfully endeavored to bring an action for assault against his wife, and that failing him has commenced a suit of divorce on tho ground of adultery. Ali Baiia. MUSICAL. AMP PltAlHATlC. The Cltr Amusement. At the Chesnut the burlesque of Tlie Field of the Cloth of Gold has made a great hit, and is attracting crowded houses. It will be re peated this eveuiug. At the Walnut Mr. T. J. Hemphill, the busi ness manager, will have his annual benefit this evening. The performance will commence with the comedy of Jxndon Assurance, after which Mr. Chapman will sing his character song of the "Teetotal Socioty," which will be followed by the Serious Family. This is a first-rate bill, and with the claims of the beneficiary upon the public it ought to attract a crowded house. Mr. Hemphill, since the Walnut has been under his care, has displayed great tact in furnishing our playgoers with attractive entertainments, and his services ought to receive a suitable recogni tion on such an occasion as this. To-morrow evening Mr. Simon Hasslcr, the popular leader of the orchestra, will have a benefit, when an unusual variety of attractions will be offered. Mr. Lewis Morrison's benefit is announced for Saturday. On Monday Mr. and Mrs. Barney Williams will commence an engagement. At thtb Arch the drama of Frou-Frou will be repeated this eveniug. At the Eleventh Street Opera House tho band of minstrels will give a popular enter tainment of mirth and melody this evening. At Dur-REZ & Benedict's Opera House the funny burlesque of Otliello, and other attractions, will be performed this evening. The Panorama of "The Pilgrim" will be exhibited at Concert Hall this evening for the benefit of Alpine Lodge, No. 777, 1. O. of O. F.
