A correspondent at Coldwatcr sends us the
following, relating to Anson Burlingame's
early days:
'Anson Burlingarae once resided in this
county, at Branch, then our county seat, with
his father, who went there about 18;!(i. and
kept a hotel, and who, while there, endea
vored to resuscitate a suspended bank at Mon
roe, and also endeavored to establish a bank
at Branch. The family remained at Branch
until 1842. Young Anson wont from here to
Detroit to study law when about seventeen
years old. Our old residents remember the
family very well. Anson was then not re
markable as a younir roan who loved work.
bnt was pleasant and attractive in his manners.
His father, Joel Burlingame, went with the
balance of his family, in about 1842, to Dry
Prairie, Indiana, and spent a while with the
Fourierites there, as he said, to educate his
children. They movoved from there to
California, where they were in 1851. From
there they went to Oregon, where they now
reside, principally engaged in farming. Joel
Burlingame was present, as a delegate from
Oregon, in the first convention that nominated
President Lincoln. Detroit Post.
