J. Manner and Robert Randolph were
arrentad last evening on the emigrant train
fiom New York, on the churge of robbing
Jacob Kisenbacb, at No. 21 Forsyth street,
New York, of a lot of BaspendeM. The
arrest wan made by Liont. Thomas and Spe
cial John Kelly. 'I hey were locked np at
the Central Station to await a bearing.
ratrick Bt. Clair, residing at No. S5ft
Acorn alley, was badly burned last evening
about the onus and face, by the upsetting
of a coal oil lamp. The flames communicated
with some of the f urnitare in the room, and
were not extinguished until considerable
damage won done. Mr. St. Clair wa removed
to the Pennsylvania Hospital. His injuries
were of a senons character.
About noon yesterday a man called at the
residence of Mrs. Klein, No. 40!) South street,
and asked if she was in. He was told she
was not, whereupon he ran past the servant
girl np stairs, and, seizing three watchos,
made off with them. One was a gold English
lever, another a silver lepine, and the third a
gilt hunting watch. A gold chain and hook
and a gold seal were alHo carried off.
The following cases were admitted to the
Pennsylvania Hospital yesterday:
Patrick Cullen, lifty-three years of age, run
over yesterday afternoon at Twenty-seventh
and Ellsworth streets, and had his left foot
badly crushed, rendering amputation neces
sary. Henry Alexander, leg fractured by falling
on the sidewalk at Second and Chesnut
utreets. .
Catharine Havtf elder, aged sixty-four years,
residing in the Keck, arm fractured by a fall.
Patrick Sourin, aged twenty-nine years,
portions of his foot cut off by a track in
Allison's foundry.
J. F. Knorr, some days ago, was appointed
by a linn in New Haven, Conn., to sell
watches and other jewelry in the vicinity of
that city. He disappeared after a receiving a
valuable invoice of watches. On Thursday
morning Knorr entered a pawnbroker's esta
blishment in the lower part of the city, and
offered three of these watches for a sum far
below their intrinsic value. He admitted that
be received them from a man named Hedges,
living in New Haven. The pawnbroker was
wise enough to boliove this story impossible.
He informed Detectives Levy and Tryon
two very skilful officers of his doubts of the
man's probity. Thoy telegraphed on to New
Haven, and received directions to hold Knorr
in custody on the charge of embezzlement.

An adjourned meeting of the opponents

corner of Merrick and Market streets. Daniel
B. Beitler presided, and Stephen B. Poulterer
acted as Secretary. Mr. Philip Lowry, chair
man of tlie Committee on Petition, reported
that 7432 names had been sent to Harrisburg
Hince the last meeting, and that 2000 more
were re lad v for transmission to-day. This
would irake a total of over 20,000 names sent
Mr. Wrn. II. Jones, chairman of the Finance
Commi Itee. reported amount on band $4,
bills outstanding over $ 100. Mr. Poulterer,
chaim tin of the Committee on Legislative
Bills, reported that no bill had yet been
naBseil bv the Legislature. Petitions had
been' sent there, and the committee are con
lideiht the people are with them. After re
marks from several gentlemen a member
stated that he had called on Judge Allison,
antf the latter showed, by the plans of Mr.
McArthnr that had been adopted, how totally
inadequate they were for the future wants of
the city, and urged him to have a meeting
called in his ward, saying that he would do
all that he could in furtherance of it, save
speaking in public, and that he was in favor
of i'enn Square.

Gold closed yesterday at 112 J.
Portland, Me., has commenced paying
its municipal coupons in gold.
A decision was rendered yesterday ex
tending Owen Dorsey's reaper patent.
General Jordan's resignation of the
Cuban command is confirmed. Bembetta is
bis successor.
James M. Mason, a mulatto, and a native
of Arkansas, has been nominated as Minister
to Liberia.
General Hagan thinks that, with care,
good order can be maintained among the
Southwestern Indian tribes.
No informotion was obtained of the City
of Boston by the steamer Druid, which has
returned to Halifax from bable island.
No provision has been made by the Ten
nessee Legislature, in the financial arrange
ments for the year, for the payment of the
State debt.
Sir Francis Hincks stated in the New
Dominion Parliament yesterday, that confi
dential communications ore passing between
Ottawa and Washington relative to recipro
city; also, that no difficulty presented itself
on that side of the line. Very likely not.
