At 4 o'clock I was talklug to a gentle man frceh from England, and he said, "Paris teems to me deadly lively." "Too quiet," I an iwered. , Early in the evening tho streets were as dull aa Regent street on a wet Sunday evening it teem ditllcult to go farther. Hut. I shall astonish your countryman as I g on. Will you or they believe for my own part, ) do not think tlicy will that tho people most concerned know nothing that 1ms happened, and seem to mo to think of nothing that pos sibly mli?ht happen? I have been all over Paris to-dny, and without affectation mar Bay that I have ajiplled for information to every source, lrora tho highest to tho lowest, and tho conclu sion at which I havo arrived is that wo wcro last evening that Is to say, in tho environs of Paris on the edgo of a precipice, and that wo escaped from it and got home safe. No two people really agree even as to what they saw with their own eyes; and at least ono gnnmakcr's shop broken into and plundered was no mnro broken into than my bedroom. The mob did certainly steal revolvers; but, as 1 said yesterday would fio tho case, they could not find cartridges to fit them charged cartridges at least. To-ulght, or not for months, perhaps years, an effort will bo rando In France to bring about the ruin of order and the de struction of private property and trade. If it is postponed, why then the revolutionists are utterly absurd, as 1 hope they arc, aud will so continue. The rioters who went up tho Fanbotirg assem bled in the Hue do l'Orillon, and made there a barricade with tho materials brought together for the construction of a church. They held tbclr ground till half-past 1 o'clock. They wcro then thrco times summoned to retire, and tho barricade was taken by the (iarde Munlclpule. A pistol was fired, and at the second summens a man broke the gun ot a quartermaster with a single blow cf an iron bar. Another barricade, constructed of night-carts, at tho corner of tho Kite St. Maur, was taken at the fame time, no reactance being made. A hand of five hundred insurgents burst Into the Plaeo du Chateau d'Eu, about 10 o'clock, crying out "A has les assassins!" "A has l'Ein plro!" Tho brawlers wcro dispersed by tho sergents-do-vlllo. Some two thousand riotors who shonted "Vivo la Uepubliique!" "Vivo Rocbefort!" and also threatened to march to the Marseillaise olllco, wcro also dis persed by the police; and a man who carried a red ling at the head of tho troop was arrested. About midnight tho shop of 51. Lefaueheux was sacked. Two hundred revolvers and twelve hundred cartridges were seized. Tho in surgents were dislodged by tho (iarde de Pirrls. One hundred and thirty-six persons in all havo been arrested, many of whom carried revolvers and cartridges. Tho revolt seems to have been hatched in tbe olllco of tho Marseillaise, tho centre of action of tho entire movement. The persons arrested are confined in the Couelerge rlc, and aro now undergoing interrogation by the Commissaries do Police. Borne of the writers in tho Marseillaise wcro arrested last night, or rather this moruing, on leaving their olllce; but the paper was sold as usual on tho boulevards, fifty centimes being charged for it instead of fifteen. It contains nothing particular, however, except a short account of Rochefort's arrest, and a bold defi ance of tho Government. To give you some idea of the suddenness of the movement last night I may mention that, up to midnight, no body had heard even of the arrest of M. Roche fort, and the boulevards, from the Porte St. Martin to the Madeleine, wore their usual bright and careless aspect. Correspondence London Xeirs. MARINE TELEGRAPH.
