THE DAILY EVENING TELEGRAPH PHILADELPHIA, THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 17, 1870. 5 THE HOME OF THE NAMES. NlotMevw Aridltlonnt Itiihtra Found In tho Una. kot Trio t'-olored Baby In at, Fair War or trinsT Npollrd. On Tueadny the limine of the Ritblos was agitlii InTadcd by Its fair nnd Kenerous friends. He twoon forty nnd fifty members of the Ladies' Foundling Aid Society, and several visitor, anacmblcd at 11 A. M., In the re(eition room" of the Asylum on Twelfth street. The lovely lady rrcaident, the Vico-l'rc&ldent, and Secretary, were all at their posts. ON VKRV nANDSOME DONATION was named among others. That of Mrs. Charles II. Connolly, who had brought In a dozen In fanta' blankets, a similar number of cloaks, eacqucs, dresses, napkins, and the usual etceteras of babios' wardrobes. Several cash donations wero handed in; among others ouc by a lady from Homo. MNKTF.EN ADDITIONAL TUniKfl. . The number of children found in the basket since the last meeting amounted to nineteen, the total number received up to last night being two hundred nnd clghty-flve. The readinz of the report being finished, the ladies proceeded to tho active business of the morning. The last week's work was deposited in the Secretary's ofilee. A largo basket, con taining the unmade garments for the next week's labor, was brought forward by two ladles and placed noar the President's table. Mrs. Otis, a lady whoso fine characteristic lace and cheerful manner proclaimed her a most sensible and charming person, distributed tho parcels with prompt alacrity around tho carncst t'yed and eager looking circle. Conversation began to be general. There was a movement as If tho mecliug was about to be dissolved. Some of the more matronlv-looking ones began to take leave. Others repaired to tho nurseries., and other, forming little groups, seemed to cujoy the usual amiable small-talk of tho set. TOILETS AND BEXEVOLEN CH. It would be doing InjuRliee to tho ladies to re port their toilets. Their earnest manner and total sclf-foriretfulnops proved plainly that they did not go there to display toilets or to bo ad mired or reported. They appeared to lose all self- consciousness in the happiness 01 doing good. Every face beamed with kindness and good ness, and "Thoughtless of beauty, caeh was Beauty's sell. THE COI.OKBD BABT DOING WELL. The babies in the nurseries wore visited. No carriage babios had mado their appearance. Tho little colored infant of the last report was still doing well, and appeared to eujoy a large share ot tne Bisters ana nurses attentions, and in fair way to be thoroughly spoiled. TUB STRANGERS PRESENT seemed to be deeply interested in all they raw and heard. One lady declared she intended to go to Stewart's and beg some ready-made gar ments tor tue babies. Another said she. would send two perambulators or baby carriages before the week was over for them. A third declared she would interest all the editors of the city in the institution. This last remark was received with some distrust. Id less than an hour the meeting was over, No speeches had been made, but the work of fragmentary charity had progressed. a roon workingwoman's habt. During the morniug, while the meeting was in ' session, an honest looking woman of the work ing classes presented herself at the door. She carried a baby in hor arms, but did not place in the basket. When admitted to tho hall she told her story. She was a wife, poor and honest, but could not support herself and child. She asked if she could leave her little one and claim it again in three months. This, of course, was impossible, as tne a&yium must conune 11011 to its legitl mate work, that of taking care of foundlings, But It was sad beyond expression to see tho poor woman's sorrowful look a she turned away. The Sister in the hall remarked; "That babv will be left iu the basket to night." OT. Y. 8u n. ItllfSIlMXi AlfU IHXAJIATlf. The City Amusement.
