Moral: Live in a oue-etory frewe where, ers are ttflflf eesearv, The Anylum for Ic. 1 To tht KriUot of Th Owning TtUgraph: We are sorry to see by Tub Evbnino Tklh oRAi-n of fcaturdny last that the object of the Dor Home 11 a been misconstrued. It was til Irgcd to be a "Quixotic" enterprise, and at the fume time kindly advising us to transfer onr time and money In aid of the poor. Fooling it to be nnjunt towards the Public that they should be misinformed, we will briefly explain the object of this mnch-necded institution. All who profess to pity the sufferings of animals must be pained to see numbers of starving and homeless dogs running at large in our midst. To remedy this evil it is proposed by the Society for the l'revention of Cruelty to Animals to build a "home" where all stray dogs can be taken and cared for. Those that have been lost will be given to tbelr owners on the payment of a small reward, while those that are worthies! and diseased will be mcrcimiiy Killed, tbereby nreventlner hvdroDhobia. Those who desire to obtain valuable dogs will also be accommodated. by so doing tending to diminish the breeding 01 dogs for the purpose of obtaining the sum paid for them at the pound a practice which leads to much needless work on the part of the "dog-catchers." In answer to the hint to kindly clven in behalf of the poor, we have only to point to the number of asylums and homes, already greatly in dobt; and when such is the case we think it scarcely desirable to increase the number. Human belmrs are endowed with the gift of speech, and are generally not bashful in expressing tneir wants; animals, on tne con trary, should be considered as a charge from our Creator, in return for which It is our amy 10 "use and not abuse."
