The Marseillaise publishes the following statement of M. do Fouvllle:--Oii the 10th of January, 1870, at 1 o'clock, Victor Nolr and myself repaired to tho residence of Prince Pierre Bonaparte, No. 69 Rue d'Anteuil. We were commissioned by Paschal Groussot to demand of tho Prince the reason for the inju rious articles against M. Paschal Groussct, pub lished in the L'Avmir tie La Corse. We handed our cards to two servants who stood at tho door, nnd who ushered us into a small parlor on the ground floor, at our right hand. After a few minutes we were conducted np stairs to the first lloor, passed throngh the fencing-room, and finally cutcrcd the drawing-room. The door opened, and M. Pierre Bonaparte entered. Wo advanced towards him, nnd the following words passed between us: "Sir, we come on behalf of M. Paschal Groussct. to deliver a lettor to you." "Yon nro not come, then, on behalf of M. Roehefort, and yon are not tools of, lm if'' "Sir, we are here on other business, and I beg you to look at this letter." I handed him tho letter. He approached tho window to read it. lie read It, and alter crushing it in his hands, he returned towards ns. "I have provoked Roehe fort," said he, "because he is tho standard-bearer of the rabble. As for Groussct I have no reply to make to him. Are you tho representatives of theso carrion?" "Sir," I answered, "We come to you to fulfil loyally and courteously the commission entrusted to us by our friend." "Are yon therepresentatives of these wretches?" Victor Noir replied. "We are the representa tives of our friends." Then suddenly advanc ing a step, and without provocation on our part, Prince Bonaparte slapped Victor Nolr with his left hand, and at the same time drew a revolver of six chambers, which he bad held concealed in his pocket, already cocked, nnd fired upon Noir, with tho muzzle of tho pistol close to him. Nolr staggered, pressed both hands on hU breast, oud sank down In the doorway by which he hnd entered. The cowardly nssassin then turned upon me ana urea, l then seized a small pistol v hich I had in my pocket, and while I was endeavoring to free it from the sheath the wretch rushed on me, but when he saw that I was armed bo retreated, stood behind tho door. nnd aimed at me. It was then that, compre hending the ambush into which we had fallen, ana reflecting that it I urea there would not be wanting those who would cry that we had been tho aggressors, I opened a door which was be hind me and rushed out. crvlng murder. As I went out a 6econd shot followed, and again passed through my coat. In tho street I found Nolr, who had strength to descend tho stairs, and wns dead. These nre the facts just as they transpired, and I look for prompt and exemplary justice for this crime. Lxmc De Fouville. Pahib, Jan. 12. The funeral of Victor Noir took place to-day. The Government, expecting a demonstration, made extensive preparations to preserve order, nnd at an early hour all its police and military arrangements were complete. During tho morning the people began to gather around the house where the remains were lying, coming from all parts of the city. At 11 05 one thousand workmen from tho Faubourgs had passed up the Boulevards on their way to the funeral. Many carriages with ladies dressed in mourn ing, drove to join the procession. At 1 P. M. dcynitations of workmen visited tho remains. The Blreots from Place de la Concorde to Ruo d'Autcuil were filled with vast thrones of people, Cariiages containing noted persons were sur rounded by the crowd and their occupants cheered. Tho weather was cold and a heavy rain was falling, but the numbers continued to increase. Between 2 and 3 o'clock, more than one hun dred thousand- persons were assembled in the vicinity of the place where tho remains reposed. Henri Roehefort attended the funeral, and his appearance called forth a great demonstration ot enthusiasm from the people. The remains were taken to Ncuilly for interment, followed by a long procession. - The crowd wanted to parade with tho body through Paris, but Louis Noir, brother of the deceased, refused his consent. At the cemetery there were frequent shouts of 1 "Vivo la Repub lique," nnd tho Marseillaise was repeatedly sung during the day. While Roehefort and Raspail were coming down the Champs Elysecs, accom panied by a great crowd who were singing lhe Marseillaise, they were stopped by a regiment of troops and the crowd was ordered to disperse. Roehefort, claiming his right as a Deputy, passed on to the Chamber, where he arrived palo and much excited. The Champs Elysees was then cleared by the troops. Two battalions were stationed near the Hall of the Legislative body, and a few regiments were massed on the Boule-, yards close at hand. The crowd finally dis persed without resistance, but some arrests were made by the police. Incidentals. t Alex. II. Stephens Is barely aMe to stt up and not able to stand.
