'Twelve Utile t hrMlnns."
A correspondent of ono of the daily news
- papers has just made seme nstoundlng discov
eries In regard to the way in which various
young Christians (let us hope they are not mem
bers of the Young Men's Christian Associa
tion) pass thoir Sundays. I don't kuow whether
he appointed himself a vigilance committee of
one, but' ho cortalnly detected a baker's dozen
of Christians lost Sunday in rather naughty
conduct. Most of these young people they
wore all male youngsters lived at boarding
houses, and, for a change, had cold homilies at
church and hot hash at h ae. Ono of thorn
went to church and stood on the curbstone when
the clock struck twelve, for the purpose of see
ing the devout demoiselles come down the stops
and display their neat little batteries. Two
others read the sporting papers In tho morning
and went to call upon some young ladies in
Greene street in the afternoon. Two more drank
any'quautlty of mixed liquors, and turned into
bod at midnight full of bad theology and worso
whisky. Other two stayed homo all day, wroto
lcttors and slept. . I wonder where they reposed
most, over their pillows or their writing
paper? Tho rest flirted with young ladies, lis
tened to religious thumping on tho boarding
house piano, read "Tom Burke of Ours," and
played dominoes. One only of these wicked
men went to church twice on Sunday, but even
he acknowledges tbe corn of having slept in tho
afternoon. In tho face of these appalling facts
the newspaper correspondent to whom I have
referred asks that free reading rooms be thrown
open all Suuday and every Sunday, and that
adolescents, Christian or Pagan, male or female,
be brought lu from the highways- and by-ways,
and have circulating libraries funnelled Into
them without money and without price. Those
Christians are in a "parlous" way, verily, espe

Colonel John 8. Da Nolle.
It is with very gloomy feelings that I an
nounce the very serious illness of Colonel John
8. Du Solle, tho principal editor of the Sunday
Timet newspaper of this city, and for many
years the weekly correspondent of another Sun
day newspapor well known all over the Union.
It is lcarcd that Colonel Du Sollo U now lying
at the point of death at his residence at Vivian
Place, Hudson City. Ilia illness commenced the
day before Christmas, just two weeks ago yes
terday, and steadily advanced". Fifteen or
twenty years ago 'Colonel Du Sollo was a
Philadelphia notoriety, having been tho editor
and proprietor of the Spirit of the Time$ pub
lished thcie, and which," iu his hands, was
lutiugullied for the caustic Impartiality
with which It attacked Che stage and
produced endless epigrams, la prose upon tho
political notorieties of the hour. Several times
he almoht puld tho penalty of his life for Just
onslaughts upou fraudulent reputatloru; on
slaughts which were eontdderod at the lliue
atrocious, but were only biilliaut aud withering.
Of recent years ho has contented himself with
the editorship of his New York paper, and with
tho preparation of his weekly correspondence.
In his distinc tive vein be Is undoubtedly the best
iroshlpy correspondent In the United States, re
taining to a remarkable degree tho freshness of
his youth, made polirnant and sparkling
with the good-natured cynicism which
only comes with experience. Ali Bah a.

Mill In Doubt.
The Pt. Louis llepuhlican of January 5 has
tho following:
The lloltkamp mystery Is still unsolved and
unchanged. The body remains in tho satno con
dition into which it passed a week ago on Mon
day night Inst. The feature?, tho limbs, the
joints, the eyes, and the mouth remain precisely
in the samo condition as heretofore reported.
There Is nothing new pertaining to the case, ex
cept that a scarcely perceptiblo film gathers
over tho eyes, which Is removed br friends as
fat ns it gathers, which is very slowly. The
pupil of tho eye seems a natural as when the
body was full of activity. There Is no contrac
tion of cither the nose or the mouth, no addi
tional coldness, and nn nbsence of all clammi
ness. Tho room In which the body has lain siuce
tho time noted above has been brought up to an
ordinary degree of heat, with two objects Jirt,
to keep the body comfortable If life really docs
continue, and, second, If lifo has ilown, to seo if
putrefaction will commence. But up to tho hour
of 0 o'clock Inst nlgbl there was no perceptiblo
evidences of either animation or putrefaction.
There is still no time fixed lor tho burial, the
friends being fully determined to retain the
bndy until the extinction of lifo Is proved be
yond thu question of a doubt by tho presence of
putrefaction.
All day yesterday inrgfl numbers of ladies and
gcutlemcu called "for the purpose of looking at
the body, but were all denied admission. From
these numerous calls it would seem there is no
Biibtidenco of curiosity iu regard to the Htrango
affair, but that, on tho contrary, there W an in
