lin Arrived In this city and la stopping at the
Wcfctmlnfttcr. Foi n week or two past hi, plc
tnro I1118 been hunting In tlio lobbies nt Niblo's,
attracting the uhuaI crowd Of discriminating
Razors. It la a sweet, mild-looking countenance),
and the man who vcars It would probably
make a poetic and picturesque "Hamlet." His
opening character, by-thc-br, is not to bo "Ham
let" but "Uuy Nine," and will tvko place on the
eTcnlng ot next Monday week. Mr. Fechtor's
( modus operandi with the members of each
stock company that supports him is vory pecu
liar, lie reads each man's part to him, to tuo
end that he may understand it n all its holghts
and depths. Tlilu 1 perhaps fat -fl to originality
on the part of tho stock actor, hut thon ho
- originalities of stock actors genonlly deserve to
bo nipped In the bad. If I remember right, it
was Mr. Edwin Adams who nome years ago pro
duced a flaxen-haired "llntnlut" upon tho Phila
delphia stage, something like what Mr. Foch
ter's Is said to ho. Unfortunately at that tlmo
blondes had not made a hit upon tho stago, nud
male blondes wcro the most Intolerable of all.
A llowrry Ulomtoin.
Yesterday the wile of a New York theatrical
manager put in au appearance In a police court
looking extremely handsome and beautifully
dressed. She was on application to bo released
on bail. She had been arreted, mi complaint
of her huibatid, manager of tb.3 Bowery, for
being a vagraut, and had becu Fcnt to UUckwell s
Island. Her counsel claimed that tho cause of
her Incarceration arose entirely from personal
splto on tho part of Judge Dowling, who is re
presented to have been Mr. Frellgu's friend.
Whether this be true or not, Mrs. Freligh looked
tho least likely woman in tho world to bo ar
rested on a charge of this kind. Her appear
ance and manners were modest, her dress in ex
cellent taste, aud her tones those of a lady.
Such is life.
A nix Capture.
Dr. Osgood, hitherto a good Unitarian of
Brooklyn, has gone over to Episcopacy. IIo has
been shifting for a long tlaio among tho looso
sands of speculation, and ho final ly settled upon
a spot where he Biirtpects uo tho.ils. Whether
he Is High-Church or Low I don't know, and It
is probable he has sunk all such inferior ques
tions its this. Ai.iBaha.
