A quorum of members appeared, anil the bill was tuken up on its final pannage. Mr. nopkius moved the further consideration of the bill be postponed until Thursday next. Dr. Knmcrly opposed tho bill excluding the hose companies, and suggested that If this was persisted in .the companies excluded would bo assisted by the more favored companies, lie favored a reduction of tho present department, as this would ojlord tho proper protection to property. . Mr. 8'toklcy asked Mr. Hopkins if lie was ha cere in making his motion to postpone. Mr. Hopkins said It was for the purpose of a test vote. If there was not a Bulllcient number to pass the bill to-day, It would be wall to let it jro over until there were votes eutlicicnt to pass it.
