Hmmi.-mwmwm, mMrmm THK DAIIif EVENING TELEGRAM! rmiiAUELPlllA, TIIUK8DAY, JUNE .'!, 1869. MUSICAL. Attn DRiWATIC. Thn Krllor Concert at the Academy of JUmlo. Despite the heat and the lateness of the iieiwa, a targe, fashionable, and enthuitlanMo audience was present at the Academy of Muslo last cve ilng, on the occasion of a grand conrort In which Miss Clara Louise Kellofrfr wan expected to be the leading aU traction. An thm charming and popular voc ill t is ahont to leaye the country again for an Indefinite sojourn abroal, her friends were detormln d to giro her a fitting farewell, and on her final appearance this evening, in one of her nioitt admlrabla operatic role, that of "lloslna," In llarbicre di Seviglia, the house probably will, as It certainly should, be filled to overflowing. The concert last eveulng was essentially a success. The principal feature In the pro gramme consisted In three selections from ItOHSlnl's posthumous work, the wonderful Mem (totenneUe. Miss Kellogg sang the Crueitixui, a rare gem, with her accustomed skill and effect. Hlgnor Kcina, a new face to riilladelphluns, who was classlOed on the programme an a baritone, but whose quality of voice belongs rather to the degree of basso, executed the (jiioniam aria, from the same work, )n a manner which produced a very favorable impression. Slgnor lloettl, who has heretofore achieved an enviable place on our stage, gave the final morccau from the Static Sulennelle, the liomine Item. This was the first opportunity afforded our musical public of listening to any portion of what has been declared elsewhere to be the masterpiece of all Ros sini's oratorios. But from these disjointed fragments It was impossible to form a true conception of the merits of the work as a whole. Miss Kellogg also sang a very attractive air in French from Ambrolse Thomas' new opera of Hamlet, the flrst Instalment given in this city. The melody was a roost delicate and delicious one, and was admirably adapted to the voice and style of the artist. The famous trio, "Zlttl, zlttl," from II Barbiere, sung by Miss Kcllog? and Pignors Boettl and Kelna, and a duo from Verdi's new opora of Don Carlon, by the two latter artists, were also given, interspersed by Mr. Rudolf Ilennlg'i admirable performances on the vloloncollo and Miss AlldeTopp's charming piano execution. This vivacious little lady, by the dell cucy and brilliancy of her performances last evening, gained a fresh hold upon the hearts of Phlladel pliians, and disappeared from the stage only to re turn in response to encores, the eagerness of which would have thrown Brlgnoli into a towering passion and filled the heart of Sims Reeves with dismay. The City Amusement. At tub Acadkmy of Music this evening Miss Clara Louise Kellogg will make her lust appearance previous to her departure for .Europe. Rossini's opera of II Barbiere di Setiglia will he performed, with the following cast: "KoHina," Miss Kellogg; "Count Almaviva," Signor Boettl; "Figaro," Slgnor Relna: "Don Basilio," Slgnor Barlll; and "Dr. ltar tulo," Hlgnor SuhIiiI. In the music lesson scene Miss Kellogg will Introduce the "Kellogg waltz," com posed expressly for her by Slgnor Ardltl. At thk Arch Mr. Collius will appear this evening In the drama of Kory O'More. The performance will conclude with the farce of Jenny Lind. To-morrow evening Mr. Collins will have a fare . well benefit, when he will appear for the last time In . The lrieh Ambaeeador and The yertoun .Ha n. Mr. Craig's burlesque of Le Oladiateur will be given as an afterplece. On Saturday night The Marble Heart will be per formed, and on Monday the new drama of Black ami White will be produced. At thk Chkknut the burlesque of Lucretia Borrjia will be performed this evening. Messrs. Donaldson . and Gilbert will make a velocipede ascension from the stage to the gallery on a tight-rope. At thk Thkatkb Comique Miss Susan Gulton will appear this evening In Florettt the Cricket. At thk Walnut Mr. Joseph Jefferson will appear this evening as "Rip Van Winkle." At thk Amkkican an attractive variety entertain ment will be given this evening. In anothbk column of the paper onr readers will find the announcement of the Private Classical Soiree of Carl Oaertncr's Vocal and Instrumental Society, at the Drawing Room, Seventeenth above Clhesnut, on Saturday evening, June S, at 8 o'clock. This society, composed of Mr. Qaertner's pupils from the Conservatory of Music, ua well as private pupils of many years' standing, shows what results may be accomplished through earnest labor and perseverance. The programme presents works of the highest order, and the entire performance will undoubtedly give satisfaction to all lovers of music present. Without any atttempt at dlHplay or show, this society has steadily made its way, and is ready to prove its position. It is Interesting to note the growth of musical culture in private, and to feel that not a city in the country can boast of more private talent than Philadelphia. LETTER OF MESSRS. DAVID DOWS CO. New Tokk, April 10, 18C. Herring, Farkkl a Sherman, No. 261 Broadway. Gents: On the night of the 22d ultimo, our store, No. 20 South street, was entered, and a desperate at tempt made by burglars upon one of your safes In our counting-room. The key to the safe n which we kept onr securities was locked Inside of our lire-proof book safe, the doors of which were literally cut to pieces; from this they obtained the key to the other safe and opened It. Fortunately we had one of your Burglar-Proof Banker's Chests inside, tn which our valuables were deposited. This they went to work at with a will, and evidently used up all their time and tools In vain attempts to force it. The night was dark and stormy, and the fact of their knowing where our key was kept shows that their plans were well matured. They tried wedging the door and body of the Chest, aad the faithful safe bears evidence of the labor and skill devoted to the work. All was useless, and It Is with great satisfaction we report that upon opening it we found our securities oil taft, and can therefore cheer fully Indorse the Burglar-Proof work recommended by you.
