John Caldwell, twenty-one years old, fell
from it scaffold yesterday afternoon and was
hcvcrely injured. He was taken to his home.
J. Kennels and II. Jackson, colored men,
quarrelled yesterday afternoon, at Market and
Water streets, din ing which wounds of a serious
character were indicted with a knife on kennels.
After perpetrating the act, Jackson made his
escape, and Kennels was taken in cliiinro by his

Mr. Dugan, forty years old, employed at the
Baldwin Ixicomotive Works, was severely cut on
the forehead yesterday by a tlyl ig piece of iron.
He was admitted to the "iViifiM-lviuiia Hospital.
David Porter, married, committed suicide
hint evening at his residence, Twenty-sixth and
Brown streets, by cutting his throat with a
razor. He was laboring under temporary in
finity. 'lhe forty-tifth anniversary of the American
hnnday School Union was celebrated last even
ing, at the Academy of Music, in the presence of
a large number of persons. The exercises were
conducted according to the programme as pub
lished yesterday.

Minister, hu3 Arrived here.
Florence, May 35. The Austrian Consul at
Leghorn, while walking with Colonel Grenville,
was killed by an assassin, and Colonel Grenville
was wounded. The erimc is said to have been
prompted by motives of private revenge, and
that Grenville was the intended victim.
Paris, May 35 Evening. The election ex
citement is very great, and the Boulevards are
crowded with people, anxious to hear the result.
Further returns announce the election of eight
official candidates, three Independent, and two
Democrats and two Liberals, in addition to
those reported this morning. MM. Raphael
Favre, and Dorcau are elected.
Paris, May 35 9 P. M. Returns from sixty
two more completed elections have been received
and show the following results: Otlicial candi
dates elected, 48; Independent, 11; Opposition,
3. Ollivier is defeated in Paris, but has been
elected for the Department of Var.
MM. David, Grevy, Pereire and Schneider arc
re-elected. Arago "is defeated. It is now con
sidered probable that lull returns will show a
larger majority for the Government than wai
anticipated. The feeling ou the Bourse at tu ;
close of the dav was confident and firm.
Paris, May 35 Midnight. All the returns re
ceived up to this hour show l'.HI ollleial and 31
opposition members elected. The election in
the Fourth district remain undecided.
The Moniteur has a report that France and
Italy have completed an arrangement for thj
evacuation of Rome by the French in Septem
ber. Cork. May 25. Parties have been discovered
here engaged in secretly drilling with arms at
night, and three men have been arrested.

Havana, May 35. The Captaiu-Gencral has
issued a decree ordering the military authori
ties in eight specified jurisdictions to seize all
horses, to prevent their falling into the hands of
the rebels. The owuers are to be paid for their
animals, which are to be used in the Govern
ment service.
The steamer Perot arrived at Kingston. Ja
maica, ou the 15ih instant, after lauding an ex
pedition at Nipe Bar, cast end of Cuba. She
will return to New V oi k iu a few days. Five
Cuban passengers remained ou board. The
markets generally are dull.

New Oui.eanh, May 35 The sale of the New
Orleans, Opelousas and Great Western Railroad
took place this morning by virtue of an order
from thcJCnited States Circuit Court, under the
auspices of United States Marshal F. J. Herrou.
The principal interests represented were the
Illinois Central Railroad, Mobile and Chatta
nooga Railroad, the bondholders of the road,
mid Charles Morgan. The tir-d bid was 1,000,000,
then 1,.VK),(HH, mid then proceeded to 3 OiXMXM),
which was bid by Mr. Paul Blanc in behalf of
the bond holders of the road, to which amount
he was limited.
C. A. Whitney, representing Charles Morgan,
bid 2,050,0K), at which price it was knocked
down, and 75 000 was immediately paid as a
guarantee. Mr. Whitney announced" that it was
the intention of Mr. Morgan, whn himself was
present, to immcdiatck- set about extending the
road to the Sabine. The actual sale occupied
only ten minutes.
The Commercial Convention was adjourned
over until Wednesday, and the delegates have
gone to-day on an inspecting tour to the mouth
of the Mississippi.
