Tub Nbw York Currm Building. The New
York Clipper, the well-known theatrical and sporting
Journal, Iiaa lust commenced a new era of existence
by moving into a magnificent new building at the
southeast corner of Centre and Leonard streets. The
Clipper has been conducted with remarkable tact; It
gives all the latest theatrical and snorting Intelli
gence from all parts of the world, and Its articles on
the drama and kindred subject! are able anil discri
minating. The erection of a new building la a gratify
ing evidence of prosperity, and while internally it la
arranged with every convenience for carrying on the
various operations of a newspaper ottlce, its exterior
is handsome, and it is an ornament to the city.
The Clijrper Building was designed architecturally
by Mr. J. M. Morrell, No. 837 Fulton street. Brook
lyn, who selected the modern French style, four
atoriea, with the Mansard roof. The front U of the
school of Jean Goujon, and is of remarkable beauty,
being one of the purest specimens of correct archi
tecture in New York. Two large and handsome
stores are on the Hist floor, each fifteen feet in
height. The second floor la devoted to the business
of publication. On one side of the hall is the count
ing and reportorlal rooms, and on the other three
editorial rooms, fitted np with all the modern Im
provements. Upon each floor above are five rooms,
three spacious closets and water-closets, until the
Mansard is reached, which la exclusively devoted to
the composition room. Above is the dome, devoted
to tho janitor, whose apartments comprise three
rooms, wlth closets. The entire building, fifty-seven by
forty feet, and eighty feet in length, from the ground
to the top of the handsome railing surrounding the
roof, was constructed by Mr. Waiter Jones, corner of
Tenth avenue and Twenty-first streets. The front is
of the Ohio stone called Berea, and the windows in
the front or the building are of French glass, Im
ported expressly for the purpose, each pane being
sixteen feet square and two forming a window, ex
cept the stores, which have fonr each. The front of
the building is graced with a handsome Illuminated
clock three feet in diameter, and another is placed
upon the sidewalk in front of the door. To "cap the
climax," a nugstalf of considerable height has been
placed upon the roof, which bears a gilt weather
vane, emblematic in its character, representing a
miniature clipper ship seven feet In length, full
rigged and with all sails set, made of zinc and
covered with gold leaf. With the increased facilities
atlordeU by these handsome and commodious quar
ters, the readers of The Clipper may expect to see
even greater improvements in its management in
ibc future than have been mado in the past.

Lr.t us Pbotkct Ourselves. The physical structure
of the strongest human being is vulnerable everywhere.
Our bodies are endowed by nature with a certain negative
power, which protects them, to some extent, from un
wholesome influences ; but this protection is imperfect and
cannot be safely relied on in unhealthy regions, or under
circumstances of more than ordinary danger. Therefore, it
is wisdom, it is prudence, it is common sense to provide
against such contingencies, by taking an axtidoti in ad
vance ; in other words, by fortifying the system with Hoa
tettkb'8 Stomach Bitters the most complete protec
tive against all the epidemic and endemic maladies that
has ever been administered in any country. As a remedy
for Dyspepsia, there is no medicine that will compare with
it. Whoever suffer the pangs of indigestion, anywhere on
the faoe of the earth where Hoktettkr's Stomach Bit
ters can be procured, dees so voluntarily ; for, as surely as
truth exists, this invaluable TOMCanJ. alterative
would restore his disordered stomach to a healthy condi
tion. To the nervous it is also especially recommended,
and in case of confirmed constipation it also affords speedy
and permanent relief.
In all oases of fever and ague the Bitters is more
potent than any amount of quinine, while the most dsn
gerousl cases of bilious fever yield to its wonderful pro
perties. Those who have tried the medicine will never
use another for any of the ailments which the Bostet
Ter's Bitters profess to subdue. To those who have not
made the experiment.we cordially recommend an early ap
plication to the BlTTEns whenever they are stricken by
disease of the digestive organs.
The Pacific Railroad.
A golden spike and costly rail to-day
Complete the stretch of that majestio wajr
Which Unks the Atlantic to the distant shore
Where men grow grapes, and dig the glittering ore.
The imposing pile the ancients reared convey
No potent meaning, like the works we lay ;
The pyramids were never bnilt to pay,
Nor move men's minds t'improve their little duy.
Let us rejoice, that since the world began,
No age has wrought such glorious tilings for man ;
In science, art, and all inventive lore,
We shame the dull old cycles gone before ;
But as improvement brings its wealth along,
Bad natures, too, progress in doing wrong;
Thieve will break through and steal, unless you awe
By something stronger that the dread of law.
And Marvin's Safes are strong enough to store
The great Paciiio Railway's wealth, and more!
That giant work complete, a nation's pride,
The whole wide continent can be supplied.
