London, May 8. In answer to inquiries from

dition of the London money market, the follow
- ing may be stated as a correct view of financial

an attempt against the Liberal regime, and pro
nounced them utterly baseless, lie declared
u.t ii... future would prove that "honor and
liberty" was his motive. It is reported that
General Cabrera, a noted CarlUt leader, has ap

Caulmcnt or Camont, a highly accomplished
nnd beautiful woman of thirty, but an Incurable
tete-inon-tee and enthusiast. One of her disci
ples gravely stated to M. Lopedier that he had
met the countess tho night before in the moon.
"Why not publish a description of it?" a-ikod
the writer. "You could greatly advance tile
cause of science byyour revelations." "I would
do so," replied the visionary, "were it not that a
repugnance to communicate such knowledge a
terriulo repugnance seizes on us at the first
step and Increases as we advance. There are
moral laws and an irrepressible sense of fitness
which Insensibly govern humanity. Mankind
are not yet morally prepared for an accurate
knowledge of the moon s surface." It Is very
remarkable that Madamo de Camont and her
disciples converse in their meetings of the scenes
where they met, and evince a perfect knowledge
of what the others have done.
There Is the Society of the Trous Judas the
meanest association on the face of tho earth. A
Trous Judas Is a hole bored through a door for
the purpose of watching people within tho room,
and it is said that an immense number of
people provide themselves with gimlets for this
purpose. Tho Society Trous Judas Is wealthy,
and has an alliance with lodging-house keepers.
At their meetings those who have "Interesting"
reports read them. This precious union has
twice had serious trouble with the police, win)
watch them closely, and, it is said, use their re
velations by means of spies. By-tlie-way, it m iy
beas well to inform those who propose travelling
on La Grande Route, that whenever they take a
room on tho continent it is as well to carefully
examine all doors and walls, though in many
cases the openings are so artfully constructed
that it is impossible to detect them.
Another very singular society is one founded
many years ago by a small and secret circle of
Russian ladies and gentlemen for the purpose ot
intoxicating themselves with the Siberian mush
room (Agarieus muscarius). How this is done
can be learned from books. of travel. The so
ciety, which was originally entirely Russian,
has not more than llftewu or twenty members
about one-third of whom nre at present Russian.
It is, however, said that a M. de Leshtor fonnvd
ir Independent club of the same kind, and tint
it has branches in Marseilles and other cities.
M. Lopedier notes it as curious that men soon
weary of these mushroom orgies, and that they
tiro not more liked by women, In whose organi
zation the intoxication acts more favorably, or
at lttast more agreeably, than with the opposite,
sex. As might bo expected, this society takes
extraordinary precautions against being dis
covered. XIic Wonder of Miuulc M'ork

In the twentieth year of (Jueen Elizabeth a
blacksmith named Mark Scaliot made a lock,
consisting of eleven pieces of iron, steel, and
brass, nil" of which, together with a key to it.
weighed but one grain of gold. He also made
a chain of gold, consisting of forty-three links,
and, having fastened this to the before-mentioned
lock and key. he put the chain about the
neck of a ilea, winch drew them all with ease.
All these together, lock and key, chain and flea,
weighed only one grain and a' half. Oswaldus
Norhingerus. who was more famous even than
Scaliot lor his minute contrivances, is said to
have made sixteen hundred dishes of turned
ivory, all perfect and complete in every part,
yet so small, thin, and slender that all of them
were included at once in a cup turned out of a
peppercorn of the common size. Johannes
Shad, of Mitelbraun, carried this wonderful work
with him to Rome, and showed it to Pope Paul
V. who sat and counted them all bv the help of
a pair of spectacles. They were so little as to be
almost invisible to the eye. .loliaunes Ferrarlus.
a Jesuit, had in his possession cannons of wood.
with their carriages, wheels, aud all other mili
tary furniture, all of which were al.-o contained
in a peppercorn of the ordinary size. An artist
named Clutidius Gallus made for Hippolytus
d'Estc, Cardinal of Ferrara, representations of
sundry birds sitting on the tops of trees, which.
bv hydraulic art ana secret conveyance ot water
through the trunks and branches of the trees.
were made to sing nnd clap their wings; but at
the sudden appearance ol an owl out ot a bush
of the same artifice, they immediately became
all mute and silent. II orll of Wontlrr.

NEW C.OLDKN KAI.LK H'KVArilf
This is an entirely new heater. It is so eonitmntjwi
as to once commend itsolt to ffeneral favor, being a coiubi
nation of wrought and oast. iron. It is very simple in its
construction, and is perfectly air-tiirht . self-cleaning, hav.
ing no pipes or drums to be taken out and cleaned. It ii
so arranged with upright flues as to produce a larger
amount ot heat from the same weight of coal than a rev tin-
nace now in use. The hygrometric condition of the air as
produced by my new arrangement of evaiionition will at
once s!emonstrute that it is the only Hot Air Furnace that
will produce a perfectly healthy atmosphere.
Those in wuut of a complete Heating Apparatus would
ao well to call ana examine me i.oiuen r.ngie.
