W. Latta eonnnuudiug, made a street parade
yesterday afternoon. On Locust street, bet weeu
Seventeenth and Eighteenth, they were reviewed
by Major-Ucneral i'revost, and executed tho
usual evolutions with precision and skill. They
numbered about !S00 rank and tile, and attracted
great deal of attention by their inarching and
fine appca ranee.
The will of Jane Mo.Cfirty, admitted to pro
bate yesterday, contains the following bequests:

A farewell missionary meeting and ordina
tion of Mr. Kdward P. Capp as missionary to
. China took plaee last evening at the Central
Church, Eighth and Cherry streets. Hev. Dr.
Reed presided, and opened the meeting with the
invocation... Prayer was then ottered by Hev.
Dr. Musgravc. The ordination sermou was
preached by Kev. D. A. Cunningham. The
charge to the newly-ordained evangelist was de
livered by Kev. Dr. Speer, formerly a missionary
to China. Mr. Capp will sail on Wednesday for
his field of labor.
Three plans have been submitted to the
Chief Engineer and Surveyor for a bridge over
the Schuylkill at Fairniount, and a report, with
estimates, will shortly be submitted to Councils.
The proposed bridge is to start, at Twenty-fifth
and Spring Garden streets, aud to cross over
Callow hill street on the west and Bridge street
u the cast side of the river. There will be two
roadways, the lower one to be on a level with
Callowhlll street, passing under the Pennsylvania
Railroad on the west side, and connecting w ith
Havcrford street. The upper roadway will pass
over the railroad and connect with Hri'dge street.
The bridge is to bo of iron, and two of the plans
are what is known as the Whipple Truss Hridge,
and the third the Warren Truss, having an arch
introduced. The span will be ii-U) feet in the
clear. To make the upper roadway accessible,
a new street will be opened on the side ol the
reservoir at Kairmount.

Charles A. Dana has declined the New

Three thousand dollars worth of jewelry was
stolen from a St. Louis store la-a Sunday morn
jng. Two convicts, while attempting to escape
from prison at Louisville, last Saturday, were
shot by the gunrds.
Joseph Messaer, for murdering his wife, has
been sentenced to be hung at Rochester, N. Y.,
Jiuie 4, next.
Eliza Dearden drowned herself yesterday in
a tub of water, at Leicester, Mass., while labor
ing under a tit of insanity.
David H. White yesterday broke an arm and
received other injuries by jumping from a rail
road train at Port Chester, N. Y.
The trial of Josephine Rrowu for murdering
Angle Stewart, at Canaan, N. Y., in 1S07, com
menced at Hudson yesterday.
William S. Thorne, President of the New
York National Fire Insurance Company, died
yesterday morning, in the sixtieth year of his
age.
Rev. John J. Owen. D. D., LL.D.. Vice
President of the College of the City of New
York, died last Sabbath, in the sixty-sixth year
of his age.
lion. Samuel S. Fisher, Commissioner of
Patents, will leave Cincinnati on Friday next or
the Monday following, to :issuine his duties at
Washington.
Thomas Kccran stabbed Richard LafHin at
Westboro, Mass., on Sunday, while drinkingand
quarrelling, indicting a wound that proved fatal
almost instantly.
William H. Stratford, a Canadian, has been
arrested at Ruflalo, charged with smuggling
morphine, lie is under bail to answer before
the United States Court.
Not quite half a million coupons have bcei
received at the Treasury thus far on account of
the payment of the May and July interest under
Secretary Uoutwell's late order.
Caleb Cushing, one of General Butler's coun
sel, not being present yesterday, when the Kim-berly-Butler
ease was called, Chief Justice Chase
postponed it until this morning.
The schooner Ireland, from this port for
Galveston, Texas, with an assorted carjjo, went
ashore, Sunday, on Pelican Spit, and is now full
of water. The cargo will prove a total loss to
the consignees.
Senator Chandler, yesterday, in "the Senate,
advocated the transfer of the British North
American Provinces to the United States by
Great Britain, as the solution of all controversies
now existing between the two governments.
Tho United States steamer Galena, which
has been fitting out at tho Portsmouth Navy
Yard, is reported ready for sea. It is probable
that she will leave that place to-morrow for
Hampton Roads, where she will receive orders
from the Navy Department. The Saratoga, ap
prentice ship, will booh leave for a cruise In
Cuban waters.
New Ohi.f.anr, April If). Captain Giles, of
tho schooner Lizzie Major, publishes in this
evening's Pivapune an aec'ount of tho boarding
of his vessel by the Spanish frigate Fernando
Cattolica. He states that the passengers taken
from his vessel had passports in due form, regu
larly signed by General Dulec, which were re
rwnized bv tho authorities at Caibarien, where
'the schooner touched. Captain Giles also pub
lishes extracts from his log, giving an account
of the affair, with the protest miide to the otliecrs
boarding his vessel, as ionows:

Three aflidavits were made against the parties

DISASTER.
A desnatch from Galveston. Texas, to-dav. says that the
schr Ireland, hence for Galveston, with an assorted cargo,
went ashore on Pelican Spit yesterday, and is now full of
water. The cargo is damaged to such an extent that it
will be a total loss to the consignees.
