Tbe jury in the case of Mary E. Clem, on
trial for murder at Indianapolis, yesterday re
turned a verdict of guilty of murder In the
first degree. The convicted was sentenced to
Imprisonment in the Penltentiaiy for life,

command, has arrived at Santa Ksplritu, from
Cienluegos.
Tne JJtario reports an engagement between
the troops and lusurgeuts, at tue town of Cien
fuegos,in which the troops were victorious. The
same paper states thac tbree hundred rebels
have suriendered .at Villa Clara. -
It seems that General Lese. is advancing into
tbe interior without meeting with much opposi
tion. The rebels expected he wjuld march by
Ue Sierra de Cubital, or take the road to Pare
diel, where they bad erected entrenchments
and were ready to oppose his progress, but
General Lcsra unexpectedly took another route
and outwitted the rebel General Quosada.
The lharto asserts that the revolutionary
General Napoleon Amiga has joined Count
Valiuaseda with two thousand men, aban
doning the rebellion, and tnut Valmaseda,
reinforced by a thousand of these men, has set
out Irom Puerto Principe to meet General Lesea,
when, with, their combined lorces,they will attack
QuFsada.
Four Spanish gunboats are cruising between
La Gnunape and Gibara. Ibe Spintih-man-of-war

The United States steamer Gettysburg has
arrived.

destroyed, and ninety of the natives killed

James C. Adams testitied that he was the Re

Fourth ward; John McKeown was the Demo
cratic inspector: Williuui J. Furey was tbe
judge; witness got to the polls about a quarter
