A little while has yet to pass ere the (tont of this place, must undergo hancs that iH be wondrous if rot admirable; aud old BurllntriU Houe, which Pope eujoveJ Hoearth would have Hayed, it he could and wheie the third Duke of Portland lived during his famous nvGHtry will never again be r ee n as Kcut Intended it should be. As to the last-named tenaut of B.irliiiRton House, be was of the. thirty, one of whom was said to have been Juuius. If this were but truly paid ! Think, had this graceful stairc-v-re and these handsome eld-fashioned chambers been inha bited and owned by the terrible "umbra" him self I In some little closet here, it was thought, was kept the tiaymg-knitu, as Mr. Bro it-nine Hptly tailed the pen of Junius. Thus mueii about the locality, of which much more might be written. The new Royal Acndeny stand- in that part of Burlington House Gardens watch is immedi ately behind the old bouse, so close indeed to this building that its entrance, will be through its cenire, and by means of tho hall, doorway, and staiicase, and an enlarged arid converted window which lormerly oecup'-ed the head of tho first flight of step'. This tli-j-ht, which has now wlnps branching on tlu right and left to the upper floors o! the house, will be at a mttire time extended, for the beLefit or the Koyal AcaJemy, to the whole breadtb of the entry, to as to make a much, more convenient if not so elegant an approach, its now exists, to tho-e suits of exhibition and lecture-rooms of the new edifice which are on the first story, having benca'h them the schools and otiicn of the Academy. The public will bave access to these rooms by means ot a covered way now built, and travoi ing the court yard of Burlington House from the Piccadilly side of the site. In plain, this upper lloor cou ist of thiee parallel lines of rooms, of which those on the south, or Piccadilly side, on the north, or garden side, comprise live rooms, com municating throughout. The centre of the thre-? lines la occupied by the Water Color Boom, on the west; the Great Boom next, towards the cast; the Octagonal Saloon, which supplies an axis to the whole series of galleries; tne Lecture Hall aud a room on the eus-t, which answers to the Water-Color Boom on the opposite tide. These fast and West Booms, which are com paratively narrow, afford means for viuitors to circulate in without entering the three cham bers which are intermediate to them. The rooms are. with one exception, lighted from the roof, and their proportions are ample for the dis play of pictures. The wall surface ot the whole is about double that of the gallery in Trafalgar Square. On this point of increased accommoda tion, It may be well to state that the Academic-tans are under no compulsion to cover the whole ot their walla with pictures. The plan of the structure, as. the reader wilt uudurstaud from our account, will permit part of the new ; suit being shut off from the rest, without pre venting the circulation ot visitor. We say this, because it appears to be expected by many that every picturesent for ehtoition will be placed on the walls, and therefore that there wi! I be less hiince of rejections of pictures happenlnir, whatever may be their character or merits, ho lar is it from being likely that a mere omnium gatherum ot woks of Art w ill be made in the nearly Cuished galleries, that we believe the Academic.aiis are more liaely to raise than lower their standard of approbation anl selection. By giving the dimension ot the new cham ber?, we ball afford a better ni'-ai s th in o her wise of judging of the character and capacity of the whole. Of the ton hern liue ot rive rooo:s, the measurement are 4uft. 0 in. by 32 ft. 6 in. for the floor of each eh-n.ber. Those on the i.ortberu line are of the tauie size as the above.
